iv done IDPA on and off over the years and being a lefty iv always used simi autos.
As of lately iv been on a revolver kick. I ran across a like new Rossi 461 with 3 inch barrel, I think it’s the one that was an Academy store only and I don’t believe it or any other Rossi pistol is in production anymore . Anyway I’m thinking of using it for some IDPA fun. As I said being a lefty this will be a new challenge . So my question is how do you think the Rossi will hold up ? The gun gun functions great and lock- up is tight, fit and finish is fantastic . Blueing is excellent . Maybe I should find a old beater Taurus and hang on to the Rossi ?This would only be once a month match for fun.

I had a two inch version. It was a good gun. Almost a spitting image of a S&W internally except for the coil spring for the hammer.

Rossi at its best has always been difficult to obtain parts or service, on an out of production gun, good luck.

It might make sense to spend a few more bucks and get one of the used S&W 64's people like AIM Surplus have for sale. Strong gun that will hold up to competition, and parts and service will always be available.

I owned an exact model like that, 46103 if I am not mistaken, purchased from Academy during a Super Bowl sale. It felt great in my hand and I liked that it held six shots instead of five, which is why I don't own a SP101. I can't tell you how it shoots because I never got a round out of it. I got it home, put in some snap caps and tried to dry fire it, to get a feel for the trigger. The single action was really nice, the double action was really heavy, and then less than 10 trigger pulls later, firing pin broke.

I called Taurus/Rossi on the following Monday, explained the situation and they said to send it in. I had heard of others that had issues with their products getting a prepaid label from them, so I asked about that and was met with some resistance, but eventually it came through. A couple of days later FedEx came by to pick up the revolver and off to Miami it went. I kept checking on their website for updates and it was not progressing beyond received, so I called and was told that they did have it and it was being repaired. The next day it arrived back at my place.

Again, put in snap caps, tested out the double action pull and bam, another broken firing pin. Called them up again, shipping on their dime, visit from FedEx and another vacation for the gun to Miami. Waited a few weeks for it to come back and guess what..........broke another firing pin. Three firing pins broken with less than 30 pulls of the trigger. So another trip to Miami, although the third time I was told that my gun would have to be inspected by management because of the repeated issues with it and this trip would take longer. They were at the point of possibly sending out a new one altogether.

I got it back after it's third vacation and immediately put it up for sale. I didn't even try to pull the trigger. Sold it off with full disclosure of the issues that I had, the three trips to Miami, the three broken firing pins and that I had never even shot it, only took a $50 hit on it.

Swore off Taurus and Rossi ever since then.

Fast forward several years, I have moved to another state and somehow I get a letter from Taurus/Rossi about how my former revolver is not drop safe and to stop using it, which I obviously had already done.

I really really really really wanted that gun to work for me. It felt great in my hand, would have been a fun range and good carry revolver in my opinion, but with the issue it had, I couldn't justify keeping it.

We got down to a trade. i have put 3 boxes of shells through it with no problems. We’ll see.

I owned a Rossi 941 4 in 357. Carried it for 5 years while skip tracing. No complaints. Always went bang plenty accurate. Killed a butt ton of snakes w it. Wish I still had it.
