Hey Guys,

I'm in the market for a new or used .357 or .38spl snub nose in the $300 or less price range. So far I've narrowed it down to a Pre-Hammer-Lock .38 Taurus SS, used for $220 (maybe less) or a new Rossi .357 for between $280 and $300. The general consensus around THR is that Taurus is a step up from the Rossi, although owned by the same entity. Seems like the Rossi's I've handled in the past have felt extremely solid and possibly better built than the Tauri I've handled...but that's just my impression. Any thoughts on these revolvers?

Ben

BTW-I'm not after a used S&W or Ruger...

I owned a Rossi service sized .38 and it was a great gun. Vent rib barrel, adjustable sights, finger groove grips, all for around $300. Was very accurate, staged very nicely, overall I'd say very good quality and excellent value for the money. I prefered it over the Taurus, had more bang for the buck, even though it said "Made by Taurus in Brazil" on the side (or made in Brazil by Taurus or something like that...you get the idea.).

If you want REALLY cheap, check out the Armscor revolvers at www.centerfiresystems.com

Why not go and ask the guys who own them over at www.taurusarmed.net? Read the recent threads and archived ones. And even ask if you feel the need to.
The Taurus Revolver board should have all you need to know. There is also a Rossi board there as well.
I have an older 85CH and have had excellent service from it so far.

I like the snagless abbreviated hammer. Won't hang up on clothing or anything else on the draw.

I have a friend that owns a number of older Rossi snubs and likes them. No experience myself with Rossi revolvers but the Taurus 85 seems to have few problems other than maybe sometimes a few burrs at first that usually work out after working the action some and firing. Although I don't much care for the lock on this one, after a lot shooting and occasional carry, it's never caused problems. A nice little gun!
