I am considering a first revolver to go with my autos and was curious about a Rossi (Taurus) 461 I saw for $250 at my local shop. I did a search on this and found mixed reviews. What problems have any of you guys had with this model or any Rossi ? Also, can I find a Ruger GP-100, or SP-100 for not that much more at a show ? I should mention this gun will not be used for carry

Thanks, guys

I had really back luck with a Rossi .38spl. It had a bad habit of not locking up when the cylinder was cycled. If the weapon is actually made by Taurus, they can repair it if need be.

Being owned by Taurus is probably not the same as being made by Taurus.

My luck with Rossis has been better than it has with Taurus. Taurus was outwardly a beautiful gun, but I found the tolerances horrible. Rossis, on the other hand, had tool marks and other cosmetic flaws, but were tight and shot very accurately.

Your choice: Dumb blonde or pioneer wife? :D

Can't comment on the Rossi, but I picked up a second-hand SP101 at a local dealer for $270 out the door, including taxes and NICS. They're out there if you're patient.

Three guns

Between the three Ruger is by far the best. I have had many. I had a SP-101 that I carried for about a year. They are built like a tank. Your grandkids will thank you long after you are gone. The T&Rs will turned back into screw drivers & beer cans by then.:)

You'd be surprised at what you'll find if you have enough patience & expose yourself to enough of the right vendors.
Good luck on your quest ;)

I owned a 357 Rossi for about 10 years now and have no complaints with it. I also carry a sp-101 and I highly recommend it for conceiled carry. Since conceilment isn't an issue, I'd go with a gp-100. Just a better gun, hands down.

There is the case last year and it is documented, that a jeweler out west bought 11 Rossi 351s for his store and employees. No reloads were placed in the store anywhere. These revolvers were scattered around the store for just in case robberies. The store also had a shotgun loaded with buckshot. Two criminals tried to rob the store. One had a double barrel sawed off and the other had a pistol. Employees and the store owner proceeded to empty all the Rossi revolvers at the 2 perps. After the Rossi revolvers were completely emptied except for a few shots, the store owner grabbed the shot gun and hit the shotgun toting thug. This ended the fight with the BGs wounded and out of the fight. No employees were hurt in any way. Rossi success rate in function was 100% and the owner has purchased more Rossi revolvers. Having Taurus revolvers I cannot comment totally on Rossi. However I have shot the 851 ,971,and351 models, though sparingly. The fit and finish were not S&W like, but budget guns seldom are. Fit of the cylinders were tighter than Taurus and the triggers were some what heavy, but manageable. Breaking in the trigger right would smooth them out. For dureability I wouldn't hazard a guess. They look like if taken care of the Rossi's would last awhile IMHO. Good luck on your search. Yes,good deals can be found on Ruger Sp101s. I owned a .38 special +P version and have regretted selling it.
