I am looking at a Rottweil O/U. It looks similar to a Model 650, but it does not have a model designation anywhere on it. Nice looking and shoulders and swings nicely. I believe it was made for them by Fratelli Gamba. I will use it mostly for some informal skeet shooting with guys from work. Does anyone here have any experience or knowledge of these guns? Asking price is $800, but it has been at my LGS for a while, can probably get it for less.

Weight? barrel length?? Choke designations?

If it is a target gun like the Olympic or American skeet in good shape, that is a great price. If it is a field gun, it might be a tad light for a lot of skeet shooting. Also, parts and service might be iffy.

28" barrels, chokes are modified and improved. Not sure about the weight, but it is not a heavy gun. The receiver, tang, and trigger guard are engraved with nearly 100% coverage. I don't have any pics, may try to take some of I get back there this weekend. Also, the trigger is single selective and the trigger group is removeable as a complete assembly.

Sounds like a nice light upland field gun...............removable trigger group sounds like leaf springs; if they break, you'll most likely need a good gunsmith to make you new ones.

Most of the Rottweil guns were made by Fratelli Gamba, although apparently some of the early field guns were made by Zabala Hrms in Eibar, Spain. Frli Gamba made good guns and some of the trap guns were very good indeed. 28" barrels choked IC/M sounds like a field gun, but the removable trigger group throws a wrench in the works. That design seems to have been made at the very end of the Gamba Bros arrangement in 1990 and thereafter by Renato Gamba who continued production of the Model 88 (with removable triggers). Guido Gamba seems to have maintained ownership of the Fratelli Gamba name for some time but does not appear to have continued producing guns. It does not appear that Renato maintained the relationship with Rottweil, so maybe this is a 1988 - 1990 production Model 88? Renato Gamba apparently changed the Model 88 design and it became the Daytona.

Anyway, there are allegedly still parts available for the Gamba made Rottweil. I think I would want to verify that. A gentleman named Chris Vendel allegedly still provides Rottweil parts - at least for the Montreal and 72 models. Nothing turns up for the 88.

Anyway, that sounds like a nice field gun. I think I would like to be sure about model and parts availability before spending but if the gun is in good condition, that seems a reasonable price.

Thanks for shedding a bit of light.
