The triangular, white plastic primer tray/reservoir on my new Pro 1000 lets primers flip sideways. I would like the previous style, round, hard plastic type if possible. Anyone have one not doing anything? Note that the safety prime ones aren't the same; they have an angled/offset exit. I need the one for the Pro1K or Loadmaster that has the exit in the center/bottom of the tray. small primers if they're different.

thanks

Could you bend the cover slightly and apply some heat with hair dryer to take out the bulge?

If your folding tray is still flipping primers, Lee Precision should replace it under warranty.

I am actually in the process of replacing the round trays with the folding trays as they are easier to load. If you still want the round primer tray, I can send you one.

1KPerDay, you might try giving Lee a call.

Last year after buying a second Lee Safety Prime and finding that they now sported those truly hor-ri-ble folding triangular things, I called Lee looking for some round ones.

The nice lady said that the round ones are no longer made or stocked but sent me an updated set of the nasty triangular style for free.

That failing, Good Luck! :)

Here's the old style one.
Lee Precision, FSReloading, Titan Reloading, etc. are all showing the same 90660 SKU number for the new folding primer tray set. Chances are, even when picture shows round tray, new folding tray set could be shipped (Many websites have disclaimers like "Actual product may vary from picture shown").

I'm not willing to give up any of mine (I hate the triangular ones, too) but I had some success finding them on Armslist. You can set up an automatic search and can be patient you may get lucky, too. Good luck.

Last night after seeing this thread, I checked to see if I had some round priming trays but realized mine were for the hand Auto Prime tool and are not the same.

But I looked at my new Lee bench mounted priming tool and assuming it uses the same triangle tray, they look similar. It looks like the mounting is the same as the trays on my RCBS universal priming tool.

The RCBS tray fit tightly in the socket of the Lee tool but as I have not placed the Lee unit in service yet, I could not try it out.

It might be something to investigate further if you cannot find the Lee trays.

I think i have a spare, let me check when i get home on friday. I actually like the little triangular one on my loadmaster......

Vintage collectible round primer tray PIF to 1KPerDay.

Now go and don't flip primers no more, my fellow Pro1K user. :D

Enjoy!

For the hand primer we have had round trays, square trays and now triangular trays.
I still think the old round tray design was the best. (maybe not as safe but I liked it better)
MY round tray broke an lee sent me the square tray setup for free:cool:, however I :cuss::cuss: it until I finally go used to it.

Wonder what shape is next, maybe a octagon?

I now prime on the press, but I had no idea Lee did away with the round trays. I don't have any spares, but I'm sure going to baby those I do have, if only for backup (if my aging hands can still do the work). Why can't these companies leave well enough alone?

why were the round trays less safe? I can't figure out any reason, other than the triangular one I have flips primers and jams up so you can't actually load any dangerous functional ammo... :D

I bought the big-daddy RCBS Universal HPT Primer Tray for the same reason (didn't like the new Lee trays). All it took to fit on the Pro 1000 was a little filing to remove some material on the back of the new tray's "feed lips", as well as shimming the sides. However, if you use a bullet feeder it will not fit unless you make a primer feed extension for the Pro 1000 (which I did). But, worst of all, the RCBS tray jams like crazy.

I started using the Lee triangular ones that Lee sent to me for free, and they actually work like the bees-knees!!

From Lee customer service FYI:
We had some issues with the Tray mold where it allowed too much of a gap between the halves, so in turn causes primers to flip. I am going to send a new Folding Primer Tray out to you at no charge.

Hopefully the replacement works... though bds sent me a round one and it's been working perfectly. Thanks again!

I dunno, the only time I've run into that is with over 120 primers in the round hopper.

I know I got a set in each kit but I couldn't find the others last time I looked. Hope they didn't get lost in the break up...
