Apparently this is old news to some (circa March on Rugerforum), but I didn't find out until today. I was in Academy and happened to see a Ruger 10/22 for $185. That's the best deal I've seen on a new one in a while, so I thought I'd take a look out of curiosity. Darned if the things don't have a plastic triggerguard and barrel band, now!!!!

It's not like I expect these things to rival a Marlin 39A when it comes to quality, but needless to say, I was quite disappointed. Could Ruger really be saving more than $5 by replacing a cast aluminum barrel band and a cast aluminum trigger guard with plastic??

Yeah. Pretty soon, people won't be bragging about the $500 "custom" Ruger 10/22 "target gun" they built. Instead, they'll be bragging about how it only cost them an extra $75 to upgrade their $200 gun to the way it "used to be" by buying a metal triggerguard/barrl band/buttplate from Brownell's!!!

The first thing I do is throw the barrel band in the trash, or buy one of the models that comes without one. Cheapest way to accurize the 10-22. A lot of guns have been using the plastic triggerguards for years now. If they use quality plastics it is probably an improvement.

Yea, I don't know what the world is coming to. The next thing you know they'll be making pistol frames out of plastic.

OH wait! They already do that don't they? I wonder how's that working out?

Now that's the truth. The people squawking most about it, are the same ones who will brag they bought a 10/22 and threw away everything but the serial number.

Anyone had one wear out?

What do you expect in an inexpensive rifle. Plastic even shows up in the vaunted 'old world built' CZ-452.

I see no problem with plastic trigger housing, as long as it is not effected by gun oil, which I believe that it is.

Cz-452

Guntech- what parts on the CZ-452 are plastic? I have a lefty-American style and I can't think of any, even the magazine follower is metal IIRC.

On topic: that sucks, why mess with success?
