Thanks to this forum I have just discovered Appleseed Events...Thanks!

I haven't spent a lot of time with my 10 22, but since Im on a budget this should be the perfect Rifle, and the perfect opportunity to get re-aquainted.

As far as the Appleseed event goes, are the stock V Iron sights adequate?? I've seen some other threads and people reccomend Tech sights..but the ones I saw run close to $100 bucks, alittle more than i was wanting to spend.
I definitely want to shoot Irons, but if the stock sights aren't a good choice what are some options for Irons? I would like to stay around $50.00 or under.( if possible)

Thanks
David

Pretty sure the Tech sights are closer to $50 than $100.

The cheaper TSR-100 tech-sights are plenty good enough, and worth every penny. You'll be amazed how well you shoot your 10/22 with them. Factory v-notch sights are not really precise enough and cannot be adjusted precisely enough.

Make sure you have a decent sling; sling use and position are 90% of the class.

From what I understand the Appleseed shooting is at 25 yards so I would think factory sights may be OK. however, If you want to continue using open sights I would get better sights that would be better for 100 yard shooting.. Also you can use a scope for Appleseed.

I will attend my first Appleseed this April in NC and find that a good 25 yard zero and practice with off hand, sitting and prone is what I need most

Don't let the 25yd range fool you. You still have to shoot 4MOA to qualify rifleman and the factory open sights make that difficult. As was stated, they are also very difficult to adjust precisely. Which is also an advantage the TS system has over the Williams WGRS. Not to mention that an AR post front sight has it all over the factory brass bead. Fiber optic front sights are also terrible for fine work.

What Craig said...

I'll add; the instructors will have Tech-Sights. They will have the tools to adjust them, and they will have lots of experience with them.

And that 1" target looks pretty small at 25 yd. Here's the last stage with a tape measure for reference:

Thanks for your help.
I've taken Ya'lls advice and went ahead and ordered the Tech TSR200s. I think the money saved practicing with my 22 will be well worth the investment.
Next step.... That M1 carbine stock for the 10 22 looks Awsume!!
Thanks
David
