So I am new here, but this seems like a good place to ask my question. I am wanting to put a single point sling on my 10/22, but I don't have an after market stock. I have a stock black polymer stock on t, but want to add a single point sling, for when I go out walkin around the woods with it. Can anyone give me ideas on where I should mount the sling adapter, or should I juts buy an aftermarket stock. Thanks!

Are single point slings legal in Illinois??????????

Welcome to THR!

Lol. Not completely sure. Guess I better look that up first. But I'm pretty sure they are. At least they are probably legal outside of chi-town.

Exactly. I have found a couple slings I like, and Blackhawk makes a adapter, but, I don't know how well it will work for a regular stock. How should I go about it?

The Blackhawk adapter will work reasonably well and is, IIRC, only $8 or so.

Some single-point slings may have long enough webbing at the attachment end that the webbing of the sling itself can be looped around the narrowest part of the stock without needing to use the web adapter.

If it's going to be fairly permanent, I would suggest just adding a sling loop (or quick attach stud) at a good point on the stock, which again will only set you back $10 or so, and requires only rudimentary skill with a drill and screwdriver.

I will say, though, that I don't think a single-point sling is a good choice for very many users, as I think the "tactical" 2-point slings provide far better control, comfort and convenience for absolutely everything except shoulder transitions, and are quite manageable for shoulder transitions as well.

I would suggest you consider one of the following slings as offering multiple options:

Spec-Ops Gear "patrol sling" which works as a great 2-point or a good 1-point

Spec-Ops Gear "T.H.E. Mamba sling" which works as a great 2-point, a very good 3-point, or a good 1-point (note: only the "T.H.E. Mamba", the regular Mamba sling is only usable as a 3-point)

hey michigan, thanks man. i really like both those slings. and i think a 2-point is a way better idea now that i look at it. i have found a few good ideas for mounting sling points to my stock, but i want your opinion on where to mount the rear point. the way these slings look for an AR stock, they mount to the top part. should i mount the attach point on top of the stock for better mobility, or attach to the bottom like a regular sling would go.

If you get the "T.H.E. Mamba" it includes a buttstock mounting loop that doesn't require you have any sling loop or stud on the buttstock. That one is setup for the sling to attach at the top of the buttstock. I find that top mounting is better for carry and often inconvenient for shooting. Best mounting location, IMHO, is the left side of the buttstock, near the butt end (maybe 1-2" away from it) if you shoot right handed. This is where most ARs have gone to, and where the AKM has been for decades. It works great for carry and doesn't get in the way when shooting. Be sure to try and test-fit that concept before you drill holes though, just in case you don't like it.

thanks again man. i found "T.H.E. Mamba" for pretty cheap on eBay and went ahead and picked it up. so i will just have to figure out the front mount, but that shouldn't be to hard. thanks again. this forum has been really helpful. im glad im apart of it.

Glad to hear it guys. Tell Spec-Ops Gear they owe me a sling or something for all the nice things I've said about theirs...

BTW, I also own slings from Vickers Tactical, Eagle, Blackhawk, and others. I think that Spec-Ops uses the best materials and is among the best value. Vickers has probably the best 2-point sling design, but the Spec-Ops offers similar functionality.
