Has anyone shot/handled the Ruger SR1911?

Saw one today at the local gunshop. A "1 of 100" engraved model with white grips. Sharp looking gun.

I might be interested in a plain jane SR1911.

Good luck. I've got one on order, fully paid for. Placed that order June 25. I'm to the point of just not caring when I get it. But, the day I get the call!

Seems like everybody is or was making a 1911 last year.

Are you getting it for an investment or a shooter?

I haven't shot one but I saw one at the gun show last month. Decided to not buy it.

Today the local gun store manager said he will have one in a day or two. Something over $700.

I haven't made up my mind if I want it or not. I doubt if it will last a day.

LTE,

Thinking of one for a shooter, I've owned lotsa Ruger guns all my life. One of my current favorites is a Blackhawk 45lc.

There's an SR1911 on gunbroker right now, but I'd like to hear from someone who has actually shot one before I pull the trigger on buying it, so to speak.

I guess being a 1911, if it isn't perfect, it can certainly be made to behave itself, I've had to do that with other brands over the years. Being a Ruger, I would imagine it's a sturdy, well made piece. 101 years after the fact, I think the industry probably has making a 1911 down to a science.

Ooh I want to see a photo of this ltd edition SR1911,

someone said something along the lines of 'seems like everyone's making a 1911 these days,' but in my opinion, there is no such thing as too many 1911s to choose from! especially when the Ruger is 100% U.S. made, also the way I see it, the more competition there is for 1911 makers, the better they'll make them right? or at least some

I'm still on the waiting list here in SE kansas (since July). Been to many gun shows and only ONE vendor I frequent from Protection, KS, had one come in. They took it to the gun show about two months ago, and one of their salesmen bought it. Saw them again last month, and hadn't had another one come in since.

I've looked at MANY 1911's since I got interested in this model, but refuse to buy anything until I see and feel the Ruger model. I was priced at the LGS 595 plus tax, the gun show model sold for 620.

i put one on order at the BX the day it was announced, and they recently got it in- and one of the guys that work there bought it without them even letting me know it was in. Bastards.

Well i got tired of waiting, a month or two after it was announced, and got one NIB on gunbroker for $639 shipped. Been a great pistol.

My 2 LGSs have not even seen them, nor do they expect to any time soon.
I handled one at the NRA meeting in Pittsburgh last year. I want one.

For a 1911 shooter, there are alot of choices.

I personally like 1st generation Kimbers and 70 series Colts, but the prices are a premium.

You can get a Springfield Mil Spec and have a great pistol with room to customize. If you can score a used Ruger, you can send it to Ruger and they can make it look brand new (for a cheap price). Their customer service is top notch!

When I said that it seems like everyone is making one, I mean that it was like overnight, everybody was making one. Not a bad thing at all. I do like looking at any 1911.

I feel like all Ruger does is steal ideas from other companies now, like a cheap Chinese knockoff manufacturer.

I didn't say they WERE a cheap Chinese knockoff, I said Ruger was LIKE a cheap chinese knockoff.

I was looking at one of distributors order page at the shot shot and the had 240 of them in stock. how many I get I have no ideal but Ruger is putting them out.

Ive fired one on the range a bit, its a hell of a gun. Perfect price and the build quality is good. Id say if you get the chance, snap one up!

A friend of mine got lucky and got one of the first ones out. I was very impressed, very accurate and handles nice. A little rough on the action and the trigger is not very smooth and a little stiff. Let's face it, it is not a Wilson but for the price it is a great buy.

Just got back from the gun store. They should get the gun tomorrow or Friday. I told the manager to call me and I'd pick it up.:)

I waited for mine for 3-4 mos. I find myself a bit obsessed. My first firearm purchase, I love it. I like to shoot it, hold it, carry it,and clean it. AMERICAN MADE every nut, every bolt, every spring and Ruger's first 1911 and relatively speaking, affordable. I'm not wild about the stainless but it's grown on me.

Demand has far outstripped their capacity to make them. They'll catch up eventually. You can bet they're working on it.

Picked up the gun at 3:30 ($699) and was shooting it by 4:30 (home range) :)

Nice 1911. Looks good.
It shoots too high and left. I'm going to have to look for adjustable sights.

I've seen several in my area when they first came out. I gave them a look over, but found nothing to get me excited. I'm sure they are good guns, but I couldn't find anything about the gun that would lead me to choose it over something else.

You mean these?

I would not pay nearly that much for a ruger 1911. My impression having shot one is that it's a nice 1911 for 600-700 but not worth the premium some stores are charging.

Obviously this one has a different value to it but it's still a ruger sr1911 that you are paying that money for.

Okay, call me crazy, but over $1500 for a $600 gun with some laser printed on "engraving" and white plastic grips? Wow, just wow.... Keep in mind that these are actually the prices people paid, not some high reserve price.

Personally I don't see what's so special about the Ruger 1911 that warrants the amount of hype it's been getting. It's just another low to mid tier 1911.

I think it's a very nice looking 1911 for the price and a lot of people trust/have comfort with ruger products.

Like I said, 600-700 dollars is not a bad price for it, any more than that is crazy. 1000+ for the gun with some engraving is worse.

It's not a bad pistol, it's just not that pistol.
