i have an old model single six 22lr/22mag. blade front and drift adjustable rear fixed sight.

i took it to the range and it shoots centered and i get good 6 shot grouping. the only problem is the poi is 3 inches higher than the poa at 10 feet.
( i shoot close as im new to revolver and handgun shooting)

ive been told that it should shoot hi because of the trajectory of the .22.
if this is true should there be a distance where the poa and poi meet? and once i find the distance i can just hold over for longer range and hold under for closer ranges.

any help would be greatly appreciated as i love my old model and dont like adjustable sights on my cowboy guns.

The sights are probably regulated for 25 yards, but it depends on a lot of things, like how you see the sights, rather you use a dead on hold, or what's called a "six-oclock hold" and such, but you're right. Experiment and you'll find the range where sights and trajectory meet. Then hold over and under as needed. Which you'd do even with adjustable sights also.

i bought some different velocity ammunition and what a difference. the short 735 fps shoot to point of aim at 5 yards.

what do you shoot in your 1958 single six? from the picture on another thread it looks just like my 3 screw.

Single-Actions are very dependent on a strong hard grip to get them to shoot where the sights are looking.

The old plow-handle grip tends to roll down in your hand under recoil and shoot high, unless you grip it hard enough to stop it.

Even on a light recoiling .22.

You might try hooking your little finger under the bottom of the grip, and squeezing harder. That will stop recoil from moving the gun up before the bullet gets out of the barrel.

I guess that's addressed to me. To tell you the truth I haven't shot either of them very much. I generally shoot Federal bulk pack ammo in all my 22's though. It may not be the best in any of them, but it's good enough in all of them.

RC,

thanks for the advice. i painted the front sight and put on a set of Hogue rubber gripps. what a difference.

last night went to the range to test out the new setup.

my best at 10 yards was 3 holes touching out of 4 shots. at close range mine loves shorts and standard or low velocity. i was able to go from 2 inches hi to 3/4-1inch hi with the new grip and sight.

im working my way up to 25 yards and over which the hi velocity is great for. i did shoot at 25yards and the poa and poi are the same with hi velocity loads.
