Help any opions on this gun im going to buy a 270 stainless in the next couple of weeks I really have decided on a Ruger but also looking at 700 bdl, and a tc encore but they are a little out of my budget on what the little lady will give me. The ruger really looks nice and it is so light weight compared to my wood furnitured winchester 30/06. The only thing I dont like about the ruger is the not so smooth bolt, any opinions on the all weather m77 would be great:)

I've got a Ruger MarkII Sporter in .30-06 - stainless barrel and action in the laminated stock. I got it from a co-worker, who had bought it for Y2k - so I got it for good price after the non-event (he wasn't a shooter/hunter). It shot pretty good as it was, but since then I've glass bedded it in a Bell and Carlson stock and replaced the trigger (which was a little rough) with a Timney trigger. Now it shoots consistent 3/4 to 1 inch groups with my handloads or Federal Premium ammo. I take it along as my backup hunting rifle, and it gets first duty if it's snowing or raining when leaving camp in the morning. (So my purdy M70 doesn't get damp:rolleyes: )

As for the bolt not being smooth - huh!?! Mine is pretty smooth - maybe it just needs a little work and some gun oil. See if the gun store has a couple of the model you want and pick the best.

Hope this helps - JohnDog

Opinion: Every Ruger I've ever handled off the shelf has made me cringe when I work the bolt. But as I like to tell people, nothing a case or two of ammo down range won't cure! :)

FWIW, I'm a Remington Model 700 guy, but the Ruger ain't too shabby, especially with the controlled round feed.

Not all MK II's are controlled feed. Early ones such as my MkII, were claw extractor but push feed. Watch that if you're buying a used one.
I've had a Km77MKII for about 10 years now. It's a good rifle, shoots into about 1.5"@100yds, and has performed reliably. The stock isn't much for looks, but I understand they've since rectified that issue.

Saw the Savage Weather Warrior in .270 Win. and it looked and shouldered real nice. Ended up getting a CZ, but that gun turned my head more than once.

Yes savage is supposed to be a really accurate gun but I dont like the stock and will not have a hunting rifle that I cant unload from the bottom.
