I have posted here and elsewhere about my desire for a single shot adapter for my 77/22, 'til now without success. Facing a lot of enforced idle time, I decided it's time I made my own. Not caring to reinvent the wheel, so to speak, I did yet another web search and found The Perdue Training Rifle. Apparently, a working single shot adapter is on the shelf at Ruger, it just needs a production run and some marketing. You can help that process by using the "Tell the CEO" option at Ruger.com

That Perdue training rifle looks great. Although I'll not buy one, I see a couple of things I may do to my 77/22. If you want such a rifle, hammer that link.

Single shot as load one into the chamber at a time?? Not in my house. Thats what bolt rifles are for. I have seen some thing that would make it function One shot at a time but still has the mag and works with a straight pull lever thats cut into the reciever. been around for some time.

The 77/22 is a bolt action. It uses a rotary magazine which will not feed rounds shorter than .22LR, rounds I enjoy. It is also a rifle that has seen a lot of use teaching kids, a process which can benefit from a single shot adapter whether shooting long rifle or shorter ammo. Single shot adapters are relatively common for bolt actions and are available from original manufacturers and after market manufactures. There is one for the M1 Garand, probably some for other autoloaders.

It might be helpful to read the link I provided to the Perdue training rifle.

Well when you also included the 10/22 part it had me wondering. I have seen an own more than a few single shoot .22. Ruger owned a company called Pine Tree casting that has made single shot adaptors that fits in the stock mag houseing. Contact ruger and see what you can find out and also go over to rimfire central and root around. Some guys there mill and sell products that can't be bought in the open market.

I've tried loading one round at a time through the breech of my 10/22 and it's a PITA. My fingers, which are long and kind of skinny, just don't fit in there correctly. When I have that one extra round to put in, I have to load it into a magazine they cycle it into the action.
FWIW, my 10/22 will feed longs into the chamber from the magazine - you just have to manually cycle the action. It becomes sort of a straight-pull bolt action with them.

If I did not want a semi-auto I would not have bought one. This guys rifle use's the same mags as the 10/22 . It's just ruger bolt rifle.. Bet I could take a old well used ruger mag and with a roto zip and a few minutes make it work as a single shot for some one to use. I have single shot adaptor for pair of .22 bolt rifles and old remington and a savage and both are a pain in the a** to get a darn 22 shell on the right spot to make it work. Ain't like a factory single shoot rifle.

Something tells me I've seen a single shot conversion for the Ruger and also a 5 round magazine for the 10/22, but I just can't place where.
Midway or Brownells maybe? Or maybe it was a local shop. I've come across some really strange stuff there...
