Yes they made it in stainless. I had one and sold it. It didn't shoot up to my standards.

Ruger stainless problems?

M16

This is not the first I've heard (always second hand up until now) that Ruger's stainless barrels don't shoot up to par.

I have 2 Ruger 77s (.280 Rem. & 25-06) in carbon steel that are just great, so I'm not a 77 basher.

Have you or anyone else heard the same?.....9x23

I have a 77/44 SS that will shoot Sierra 180jhp....about 1400fps... into a clover leaf....but have not found a load in lead it likes....but I really like the 180s.......so its good to go.

Question...

I have the Ruger carbine in 44Mag and it's a very handy gun with 2 moa accuracy which is reasonable considering the gun and the caliber.

So what would be the advantage of that cartridge in a bolt action rifle?

I bought mine and was going to use it as a subsonic suppressed rifle so that's why I wanted the bolt action. I later decided to go with the .300 Whisper due to a better trajectory. I still have one of the old Ruger semi-autos that shoots decent.

I have a Ruger 77/44 stainless. It shoots factory American Eagle 240gr JHP into groups less than 2" @ 100 yards. It has also put a few deer on the ground. It makes a fine deer rifle if you like to go to the deer instead of setting in a tree hoping one will walk by. I put a 4x shotgun scope on mine.

your semi carbine needs hot loads to function. the bolt action will shoot light or hot and even 44 special if you want.:D (_!_)

Great FIrst Gun

I think that the 77/44 and CZ 527 carbine in 7.62x39 great first deer rifles. They are more than adequate for 100 yards but not overly powerful if overshot. They have detachable magazines which gives me control over ammunition until I give it to my son to load. And it was cheap ammo and light recoil for practice.
