Well it looks like they're finally going to do it. Ever since the American Rifle came out, I've thought that the lack of the .223 chambering was a glaring omission. Such a light, handy and accurate rifle really should be available in what is one of the most affordable and fun to shoot centerfire chamberings.

And it looks like in March it will be.

The compact stainless variety seems like it would be a great all around beater or truck gun. Anyone else excited about this new option in the inexpensive .223 bolt gun market?

8 twist too. Thinking about the same thing as you. All purpose truck gun. I vowed to get never get rugered again, but imo for the money this is a better gun then the m77. I had a few, and none of them "shot".

That is awesome. Hopefully they'll keep expanding the line. Magnums next?

I see an American all weather .308 compact in my future, as well :D

That's going to sell like hotcakes if they're nowhere near the $530 MSRP. $400 would be a good price point, if you ask me.

Its about time! I've wanted one in .223 ever since I bought my .308 when they first came out.

I would bet that the price for the all weather settles in at around $420. That would be $130 under msrp, which is what you can often find the blued model for around here.

The fast twist is the kicker for me, i've wanted a CZ 527 for a while, but the twist on the American is a bit slow, and the varmint (which has the right twist) is a bit heavy. I would think the Ruger will be easier to mount a scope nice and low on too.

I've been looking for a relatively light weight inexpensive .223 with a faster twist for a while. I'm looking for something that will shoot a 62gr ss109 for fun and then be easy to hike with for small-medium pest removal. This is going to be high on the list.

OK, I just hate Ruger this time of year! That would make a super good truck gun for out here in CA, 1/8 twist is the kicker!

I started a thread about a 223 ruger american over on the firing line forum a few weeks ago asking about a 223 ruger. I guess somebody at ruger liked my idea. Well, maybe not. But I am happy to hear this.

I have a ruger ultralite 223 on my watch list at GB right now. I think I will remove it. I can wait till march.

I'll be buying one in 223, haven't decided exactly which version, but an 18" barreled youth version is starting to look nice.

The .223 is definitely a new chambering for the Ruger American, before, the smallest caliber available was the .22-250.

I always wondered why they never came out with one in 223.
I just bought my brother one in 308 for Christmas last week. Wish the 223 would have been here because I would have bought it instead.

I wont be buying one. My old boat paddle stainless is too nice. 22" sub moa rifle shoots 60 gr. Partitions very well.

I can see myself getting one of the standard versions in 223, the barrel twist is perfect for my needs, though my wife would probably try and wrestle it away from me if she saw it.

I noticed that on Ruger 's website the blued version didn't have the fine print stating that it would be available in March. I'm pretty tempted to pick one up, but I think i'd better wait for the stainless version that's calling to me. Now the only question is standard or compact? I think respectable velocity could be had out of the 18" barrel, but I do wonder how much more velocity the 22" would produce.

Smart move on Ruger's part I think. The compact will be a handy little varmint rifle.

Now if they could make one of the full-size in 260 Remington...

They should be out before Christmas next year. Looks like I am adding something to my sons Christmas list already.......just a year ahead of schedule........
