Will this 16" barrel 1:10 twist shoot a 154 gr bullet?
I have this Wolff ammo in 154 sp, but I also reload and would like to know if this barrel will stabilize a 150gr bullet out to 300 yrds.

Oops, el doble postings. :(

I'd think the slower twist would be grate for those heavier bullets.

The x39 RAR gets rave reviews. You can even use an extended Mini 30 magazine for defense if needed.

My Savage in that caliber is 1:10 and it loves the 165 grain FTX bullets when I load those. Shoots the Tulammo 154's very well too.

Give it a try and see what happens. In my experience, that is a very forgiving caliber in a bolt gun.

I can't comment on the load, but I have the rifle and it is great! I have several hundred rounds of Golden Tiger down the pipe with zero problems. It is very accurate and I hope to be able to spend some time shooting for groups next week. I love the Mini mags and they work great. All in all a winner.

Funny you should ask. Just picked my ranch up yesterday for the same reason, 15 year old stash if 154gr SP. It shoots them very well. I am getting 1.5" groups at 100 yards from a bench using bags and a 2-7x scope. Not bad for ammo most said was only good for 3-4" groups... I have not had an opportunity to shoot farther on paper yet.

I would like to try the Hornady SST load at some point as those have a very good reputation.

I might as well add my general impresssions of the Ranch as well. The good, it is short, light, handy, and seems to be quite accurate. I am only 40 rounds in and have not had any trouble, not that you would expect any. The not so great, the action is far from smooth, I guess that is my only real complaint and I am sure it will smooth out in time. The trigger is actually better than I expected. I was able to use low rings with the Burris Fullfield II 2-7x35 with plenty of clearance at the bolt and barrel.

I've been looking at getting a ranch in 7.62x39. Does anyone know, does it have a .311 bore or a .308 bore? I have a Mini Thirty that I'm going to pick up some Sierra .311 Pro-Hunters for, if this was the same bore I could the same in both and that'd be pretty neat. (-:

I wouldn't hesitate to try .308 bullets in it and see what happens. You might just be surprised.

A Ruger American Ranch 7.62x39 with a 2-7x35 scope sounds like something that could easily become a person's favorite gun to shoot. As much as I've enjoyed my Savage in 7.62x39 over the past few years, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't tempted by the Ruger American Ranch. Those Mini-30 mags and oversized bolt are very attractive.

Another one to check out is the Federal Fusion https://www.sportsmansguide.com/pro...762x39mm-fusion-123-grain-20-rounds?a=1593861
I still have some 154 gr SP steel case. Thanks for sharing.

.310

Huh. Neither the 7.62x39 Rossi or PSA I have will reliably ignite rounds. (Though the PSA has fewer FTFs than the Rossi, which is probably under 50%, even with US ammo.)

I've mic'd ammo from several manufacturers, including my own handloads that measured .308, .309, .310 and a few at .311. They all fed through my Model 10 Savage just fine, and they all shot within 1/2" of each other. I have a piece of target where I shot 10 rounds from four different boxes of ammo (from .308 to .311) all into a 1.5" group at 100 yards.

I routinely load .308 bullets for my gun. Guys, I don't think that .002 makes enough difference to worry about.

I have a PSA 7.62 upper and I have 100 percent reliability with all ammo.

Kind of a different topic but I would think your issue should be straight forward to diagnose and correct. For starters based on your comment "even with US ammo" you have tried different ammunition in each gun, if not you should. Essentially you want to eliminate or isolate the ammo as the problem. How do the primers look on the rounds which have not fired vs a round that has, was the primer strike light and the primer barely dimpled for instance? If the ammo isn't the problem the obvious and most likely culprit would be with the firing pin. I assume the Rossi is a break action single shot but I am not familiar with that action. Searching the web for "ar 15 7.62 x39 firing pin" turns up a number of instances of similar issues including PSA specifically. It appears there are "enhanced firing pins" available, contacting PSA if you haven't might be a good first step to see if they offer something.

Starting a separate thread on the Rossi issue would hopefully attract input from people more experienced with that action and hopefully resolution to your issue. Having FTF from live rounds regularly can't be any fun and must be nerve racking. Good luck with your issues.

Rossi's are nortoriously unreliable with AK rounds. I am out hunting right now with a PSA 7.62x39 right now. It is probably the firing pin on the PSA. Good luck out there

I bought the ranch 7.62x39 and put a scope on it, I had a brief time to shoot today. This little gun will shoot easily sub moa at 100 yrds
I am quite pleased so far, but the bolt will not close on a empty mag with out pushing down on the magazine follower this does not allow for easy one round loading through the ejection port. I do think the mini thirty mag. option will out way the single round load option.
This bolt action does require some effort to cycle and could be a problem for a young shooter? Perhaps it will smooth out over time.
All in all I have no regrets.
