I've been dying to get my hands on a cz 527 carbine in 7.62x54R but im poor and I want and need something soon, my lgs had a Ruger American ranch in stock for $425 (high price I know) chambered in .223 and I think that rifle would hold my addiction for a week or two ; ) . But I am torn between 300blk and 223rem and I'd have to solder on some iron sights and I'm wondering if there could be a way to feed gi mags in the future.... Anyways I have the setup to reload 223 and I would have to get rigged up to do 300blk also my local range is limited 220yds and Its wooded where i hunt so I don't think any opportunities will present itself for the 300blk to turd out on me at distance. I want to take deer effectively and apparently an effective 300blk round for hunting is around 110gr from what I understand and that limits a practice/range bullet that's cheaper to match the more expensive projectile at the same time surplus 150gr fmj should make good subsonic rounds, aaaaaahhhh I can keep going on and on what's your guys take on this and how has your experience been with this rifle/bullet and any links to sights ready to solder would help

My advice is to save up for what you really want. With anything, not just guns, I seldom end up happy after going for the cheap substitute.

True, the problem is I have to use the money from selling my current guns to fund a new rifle and in Alabama I've had 7 posts up with very reasonable prices and not a single bite and this has been a year now and I'm literally the only one who isn't an idiot and posting ads for above msrp it's rediculus I hate people

What do you mean get real? How do you think iron sights were attached before dovetailing....Silver solder/braze that's how !!! you need to hold your lips together before speaking before we all know how dumb you are

So you have the skill to do it right? Having it done professionally will bring the cost up to the CZ level. I've removed quite a few iron sights from rifles and none of them were soldered on. If you do solder on sights I predict it will ruin the value of your rifle. I may be dumb but I do know how to spell and use proper grammar.

Your a troll and if I can or not it's not relevant to the topic at hand . And yes I can and will do just that I prefer it to brazing on rifles. as my mill is broken I can't cut dovetails and even if I could I'd still solder them on and guess what it would last generations just the same as on my old side by sides. Also if I misspelled something boo hoo I am an excellent writer and could care less what you think . Why are there so many trolls and pricks on thr I assumed it had knowledgeable people on here, as with every other forum anyone with an email can come and be common just like that **********

Go ahead then. If you can't cut a dovetail I believe that would be a huge mistake and again you will seriously hurt the resale value of the rifle, but I'm sure you know that. You also get offended very easily which doesn't bode well. Name calling isn't going to win you many friends either. I'll bow out of this thread.

Ok guy if you seriously think posting a message telling me to get real as opposed to saying that you don't think it's a good idea and explained that in a reasonable fashion won't get a mad response than I'm not sure where you're logic is. Here is a random post on it I didn't even read, you have to understand if you give vinegar you don't get honey and sometimes people get tired of people like I stated previously. I made gun parts in a machine shop for 12 yrs among other parts whatever was making money and I apologise for being mean but come on man I jump through hoops for people happily and if you would of not made a dumb short quip I would of Glady told you anything you needed to know on the matter. And it's a $330 dollar gun I'll probably paint it **** green :) showthread.php?30487-soldering

Sounds like if you want a 7.62x54R you should get a mosin, if you meant 7.62x39 check out the Howa Mini or be patient, I picked up my CZ 527 for $500 used.
Also you might want to consider a change of attitude. There is a lot of good folks here that will help you out but coming in with your attitude I suspect you won't reciever much courtesy.

Oops I have a mosin I did mean 39 my auto correct has saved 54 due to how many times I write it

Like I stated I apologized to that guy but if you knew how much BS I've taken of people who have nothing good to say. I mean honestly 6 words written and two were telling me to get real, that was a waste of my time to read I've met alot of helpful people here who knew this site is meant to gain knowledge not make quips that are absolutely no help whatsoever. If anyone reads this thread don't judge me by all this I am just sick of people and don't waste people's time being a jerk especially if you don't know what your talking about think before you speak

Nice is that the mini 30 I want one of those in the future but want a bolt for now to run supressed

Couple thoughts having owned a rar in 300aac.
Properly soldered sights are fine, BUT a no power or low power optic will likely be easier and cheaper.
Also depending on the bullets you pick the RARs mag can be prone to nose diving and hanging up.

As to using other dbms im the rar, i doubt it short of buying a chassis, or an aftermarket stock specifically built for something like that.
The rars mag attaches to the stock only not the action or bottom metal, so no easy conversion like some guns.

Sounds like you may be better served with an AR in x39 or 300aac. With current prices you could be well under 500 for either, if you find a deal or build your own. You can also get your threading and irons with less fuss.
If running suppressed and wanting to use quieter handloads, id get a side charging upper.

If your dead set on a bolt gun the Rars a good choice but not one id bother modifying. If having the ability to use ar mags is a real selling point for you, personally would be more inclined to start with a mossberg mvp and put a .300aac barrel on it.

I have a Ruger American Ranch rifle in .300 B/O. I hated the cheesy rotary mags. I bought a nice Boyd's stock and sent the rifle to CDI Precision. If you buy their bottom metal they will install it for free and they did a nice job. The 10 round mags are nice bit not standard AR mags but very nice controlled feed style mags. I bought my rifle for shooting suppressed. Also running a Leupold VX 3 3-9x40 mm scope. The rifle is now how Ruger should have made it to start with!

Thanks again loonwolf I always appreciate your input. I was just day dreaming on the mag thought I knew the MVP scout style rifle Mossberg has is definitely neat but to new and pricey I'll wait till the settle in and at those prices I'd of had my cz.

Drill & tap a single hole for a front sight base. Soldering is going to require refinishing the barrel and if you don't know what you're doing, it will result in a mess. Find a receiver sight solution that utilizes the factory holes.

Nice!

Oh wow timc that's definitely a neat way to go, that might be what I'll do later what did that set you back, I need what's in the stores around here now I bit off more than I can chew a friend of mine who's in the hospital was supposed to host a hog hunt with veterans and it's me and another guy who stepped in.

I do know what I'm doing I'm very good at those things and I planned to ceracoat it all along. : ) heck It's been multiple time I've had to braze a old side by side cause the owners bought it used from a big box and has no clue not to shoot new shells through it haha. The last Dutch Scott I did I put a picatiny rail on it for a guy who wanted to turkey hunt with it!! Made alot of people's skin crawl to hear that!

It was right at $330 with shipping for the bottom metal and 2 mags.
The stock was about $300 but I went fancy, a decent Boyd's stock can be had for around $100.

Yea I might try that in the future I'll go look at Boyd's now and see the selection

$425 - Ruger rifle
$100 - new stock
$50 - rear sight
$??? - drill and tap/soldering for a front sight

Looks to me like you are running up on the price of a CZ ($630 on Bud's) awful quickly, just to make a rifle into a CZ.

If I was in your shoes, I would grab the Ruger and a cheap 1x or 2x scope, then call it a day.

If you read the previous posts I have to have it for a charity hunt so time is a factor and no one has mentioned the caliber dilemma that is the intent of the thread : )

Between your LGS for the gun and hunting ammo and Walmart for the scope, you could probably be hunt-ready in 2 hours. And for hogs, IMO, it's 300BLK over 223 all day every day.
