ummm....why?.....

they already have the SP101 in .22lr....which looks damn near identical to the GP100.....

Hey that's pretty cool. I'm in the market since my SP101 is just too small and not that thrilling.

May go after a 17-3 though instead.

10 shots and a longer barrel. I'm guessing it's purely their way of competing with the S&W 617. Honestly though, unless the price point is below $700, I'd sooner buy the 617. Although, the lack of the full length underlug is appealing over the 617.

Gonna be heavy enough with the 5.5 barrel already, absolutely no need for any more weight in a full underlug.

It will, different geometry between frame sizes.

That's reason enough for this cap poppin cowboy.

The trigger on my Peepaws .22 SP101 is just awful.

Full size .22 revolvers have a place- the Smith k frames have shown that for decades... Those of you who do not get it are fools :p I waited way too long to get my first model 17 and wish I had gotten into one sooner. I now have a 617 to go with it and whole heavy it shoots great!

Guns are like golf clubs - no one will do everything as well as specialized pieces. I have anew sp101 and the trigger pull is easy to improve with a wolf spring kit... a larger revolver is going to be easier to shoot- A GP 100 in .22 will go on my list of be on the look out for the right deal... Not a matter of "need" but I would love to have one :)

I was actually thinking that this was the stupidest thing they've come up with yet, but I'll hold my tongue from any further comment and defer to your more diplomatic approach.

About time that Ruger produces something approaching a Model 17/617. I would expect the trigger will be much better than the current SP101 in 22LR.

You can see Ruger's answer to a declining sales climate..... more guns.

Ruger could have made a .22 LCRx, but instead they make this colossal contraption? I appreciate that Ruger keeps producing new things, but this one just puzzles me. About the only reason I can see someone choosing this over the SP is the larger grip.

Personally, just because it has a larger grip and two more rounds doesn't interest me in the slightest. I'd much rather have a .22 in the 3" LCRx that weighs 16 oz over the SP that's double that weight or the GP that weighs 2 lbs 10oz.

Sometimes I just wonder why the most popular guns the market clamors for, like the .327 LCR, Ruger puts off for years while in the meantime puts out stuff like the Red Label.

Yeah, right, MORE over-priced niche guns that appeal to a tiny market share, and that only serve to dilute the corporate profit yielded by their more popular guns. :scrutiny:
As I've said many times here, I absolutely love my 6" .357 GP100, but without a 60% factory rebate, you couldn't get me to even look at one of these boat anchors.
I'll keep my Single Six.
I'm still waiting on the geniuses at Ruger to wake up and put out a mini-14 that is compatible with AR mags. The mini wouldn't be the red-headed-step-child of assault rifles had these nit-wits done this 2-3 decades ago.

Having owned a S&W 617, I think I'd rather spend a little more for the 617 than the GP100. I'm sure it's a great revolver, I just prefer Smiths.

I do want a LCR in .22lr however

Do the critics not understand that S&W has had the market cornered on full size rimfire double actions for decades? The last competition they had was from Colt and maybe a little from Dan Wesson. S&W continues to market several variations of the 17/617. So don't you think the market is there? Or are you just looking to find fault with it, because it doesn't appeal to you?

Not sure I like it at $800....but I like it.
You do understand that that's MSRP and that street price will be somewhere around 75% of that, right?

You really think those two guns are aimed at the same purpose?

I love it when anonymous internet critics think they know better how to run a company than those who actually do. You do realize that Ruger has turned a profit every year since 1949, has no debt and operates on cash? Geniuses indeed.

Boo-frickety-hoo, it weighs the same as a 6" model 17 and less than a full lug 6" 617. Also less than your .357 GP.

I would have preferred that Ruger upgrade the fire control internals on the SP101 22lr. That model certainly could benefit from it.

This gun is touted as having a better trigger over the SP version, something the Ruger DA .22s desperately need.

Cool, and I'll watch for one. But I still want one with half the capacity at twice the caliber! (5-shot .44 spl) Do you hear me, Ruger!?
