Ruger Announces New GP100 in 22 Long Rifle

I am astounded at the negative remarks and nonsense speculation in what should be a simple informational thread.

S&W has been selling K frame 10 shot revolvers for a long time. This offers the same option to Ruger fans. If it doesn't appeal to you, don't buy one. If you think Ruger makes bad business decisions, I suggest you give a little thought to the fact that Ruger is a successful multimillion dollar business, and may possibly have a broader perspective on the market than some lone internet forum commentator.

I personally think a GP100 in .25 ACP would make an excellent defensive weapon for the elderly or infirmed.

It (the 617) is actually a K-frame. ;) Regardless, I consider mine one of my wiser firearm-related purchases, and I'd certainly consider this new one if I were in the market for another .22 revolver, especially if I already had a GP100 .357mag.

I'd like the GP100 chambered in every cartridge from 22 to 357 magnum in barrel lengths from 2" to 8"

I don't think they'll do that but I'm not going to get upset if they come out with a model chambered for 9×18mm Makarov, or 25 ACP, or any other caliber for that matter.

My mistake. Correction noted and made.

I get a kick out of the guys whining about a revolver they do not want being offered. Not every .22lr is a light field gun nor should they be. Target guns are normally on the heavy side. Want light go buy a ruger lite :)

I always love to hear from the ".22lr is not a real gun folks" whenever someone posts about a full size revolver or semi auto in .22lr that costs as much as a "real gun in a real caliber".

I own many center fire guns, and reload for all of them, but whenever I go to the range (at least once a week) I always take a .22lr for practice and fun. I like high quality .22lr firearms.
To my way of thinking it is worth spending as much or more on a good .22lr than on a similar center fire gun.

Weight is also important, anyone who has shot any type of target competition knows that a heavier gun improves accuracy and stability. That is why Smith makes the K-22's with full lug barrels.

Besides Zombies can't hear a .22lr being fired from as far away as a .357 or a .44 and a head-shot with a .22lr will take out a zombie just as effectively as a large caliber. That along with the 10 round capacity makes this GP an ideal Zombie apocalypse gun.

Now the bigger question to me is can the trigger be improved so it is as good or even better than a K frame Smith and Wesson? Is the gun drilled and tapped so you can easily mount a scope or red dot?

This is the first Ruger double action revolver that really interests me in a very long time.

Master Blaster...

HAHAHA- want to get them REALLY going start talkin of spending several hundred to several thousand on an AIR GUN :D they would not understand- until they are introduced to them and if they have enough sense and aren't too cheap to see true VALUE!

I already have the 8-shot SP-101 and I have an interest in the 10 shot GP-100 but I can't find one for sale.Nothing on GB.Who's selling them?
I really don't need one but I might want one.

They were just announced man. Give it a few weeks and they'll turn up.

Consequently, Jeff Quinn did a review of one over at gunblast.com, and the accuracy report was very favorable on that particular specimen. Let's hope the same is true of the rest of the lot.

Ruger generally produces a batch, ships them, then announces the release. They should be hitting the shelves before Christmas. I wouldn't wait very long if you really want one. I made that mistake with my SP101-22. I passed on the first one I saw, then decided I better buy it, went back the next day. Of course it was gone. It took 14 months before I saw another one.

Yup, I can attest to this that once you see something that's new or uncommon, buy it because it will disappear.

I learned the hard way with H&R Handi Rifles :(

That's what I was afraid of with the S&W 929 so I bought one as soon as I could.

I was afraid that S&W would only produce a small number of them so I would check online every few hours and when they would appear they would sometimes sell out before I could complete an order.

Now they're selling for about $200.00 less than what I paid for mine :(

But there are a few guns that I held off buying in the past to my regret. I took a pass on the S&W 547 and the 9mm Ruger SP101 because I wanted adjustable sights. I thought that they would come out with a model with adjustable sights, instead they stopped making them. I didn't want that to happen to me again so I purchased the 929 as soon as I could.

Its just the chance you have to take.

I had that happen on a performance center gun before. Also had a gun I own go out of production and the value of that gun go up by 50%. Then Smith started making them again and my gun dropped in value back to what I paid.

+100

The incessant whining on here about Ruger's product line reminds me of the purists who couldn't handle Porsche introducing an suv. Get over it. This is progress!

One showed up on Gunbroker last night for $632, and was sold by this morning. The trickle begins.

If sales are decent, I wonder if they'll offer it in .22WMR down the road. Seems like a logical move. I would like to see a GP100 in a 5-shot 45 Colt.

I could see Ruger doing a 9 shot .22 Mag GP.

I don't think you'll ever see a .45 GP100. Ruger already makes two Redhawks that chamber .45 Colt and sell quite well.

If anything should be offered in the GP, it should be a limited production .41 Magnum. It would sell out overnight.

I would imagine so. A ten shot GP-100 (Same style as the .22) in .22 Mag at a reasonable price would be something I would have to have.
