Just wanted to share a few pearls of wisdom on the Ruger AR556. This post pertains to the standard model, and not the MPR.
I took off the front sight, replaced it with a low profile gas block, and put on a Foxtrot Mike 15" free float rail and a Magpul VFG. I also replaced the stock carbine buffer with an H3. The BCG on these is not an FA carrier, so I figured the extra ounces would help with recoil impulse. I was also getting a nice peened ring on the stock buffer, which I attribute to a high carrier speed. The gas port is likely oversize, as it is an entry level rifle and will likely be subjected to a wide range of ammo. I only use mil ammo, so this overgassing needed taming. It locks open on an empty mag and ejects at about 3:30.
These mods worked wonderfully, and it is extremely easy to keep my Aimpoint ACO on target for follow-up shots. I have a Surefire comp coming in the mail and only expect it to get even softer shooting.
