Ruger frustration, Security six

I've seen that there is a shade of Duracoat that is a gunmetal blue, that looks for all the world as if it's actual bluing. Would it be possible to polish or bead blast this down to reduce the pitting, then Duracoat it?
No, when a gun is that pitted it would require grinding to get rid of it, and that isn't feasible. Structurally pitting doesn't hurt. It's just an eyesore. Ruger might offer you a GP-100 if it's feeling generous, but you're better sending them the gun and asking them to check it out.

I had a an LCR that had a crack in the frame. I sent it back to Ruger only to learn it was temporarily out of production. They ended up sending me a 2.25-inch SP-101, which I like better. It goes well with my 3-inch Speed-Six. People I know say they'd rather be eaten by a bear than have to shoot a magnum round out of an LCR. And 1.82 inches is just too short for a 357 Mag in my view. Still, it beats a .38 Spc+P out of a 6-inch barrel.

If the pitting is confined to the outside surfaces, you might be able to make it cosmetically passable. Plating after a good bead blasting might conceal most of the pitting. Cerakote is also a good way of dealing with damaged surfaces. If the bore or chambers are as pitted as the exterior, it may not be worth the money for a professional refinish. In that case , you may be able to file or sand the pitting as best you can and cold blue the gun after getting the mechanicals working safely.

Don't know if they will fit or not but there is a set of Herretts grips on eBay that say they will fit the early type Security Six, going to PM you the link.

I recently acquired a shoe box gun that was a Ruger Security Six. It is in very bad shape, partially because Bubba (in this case my Dad) tried to "make it better". Not sure it could be made better anyway as at least one dealer it was sent to sent it back with a note saying it was unrepairable.

External rust mostly from water damage. Need a few small parts which I suspect were damaged by said gunsmith or some other person in taking the gun apart.

Amazingly the grips are missing....though Dad picked up some after market grips that one of his buddies swore were for that revolver.....they weren't. Before this gun went to another family member to be stored under a leaky sink, it was a pristine, like new early production Security Six I helped Dad pick out back when they were new. Thus I don't really care about the fact it can never look like anything but a mangy mutt of a dog, I just want to be able to shoot it again.

Got to looking on line for grips and yea verily verily NO ONE mentions if their grips are for the early models with the angular grip frame or later models with rounded frame. Kind of hard to tell from photos which is which. Anyway I can tell which is which via the placement of say mounting holes in the back of the grips? Also no one seems to sell original grips with the take down pin in them like they had. I thought it was neat of Ruger to include those even if a paper clip or finishing nail will work.

Anyone have a pair of the early model grips laying about?

I've been looking for some grips, suggest you look at Brownells, they have some Pachmeyer Grippers in stock.

My wife had a Service Six that looked about like that. I refinished it with Duracoat in their stainless steel color. It came out looking like the chrome bumper of a car, but it worked. Be careful with Duracoat, the spray layers will make the internal parts not fit together if you put it on too thick. I don't have a picture, (her loving brother stole it). Also, be careful with their color called "gun blue," I sprayed an old ugly T/C Renegade with it, and it came out looking the color of a Ford tractor.
