I took a gamble. Wanted better a blade sight for my Ruger Service Six (1st pic) other side is worse, so I bought 3 barrels for a GP100 with the fixed sights on them. (4th pic) The barrels are new and so are the sights.

Looking at replacement dimensions for the GP100 at Gemini customs fiber optic front sights they are SPECIFICATIONS – .38-.357 – 0.125 Width / 0.640″ Length / 0.150″ Height. (2nd pic)

That is a lower than the one I measured on my revolver but the other dimensions are the same. I can certainly adjust my point of aim with a taller sight.

Why did I do this? Well, Service Six and Speed six blade sights are almost impossible to find and I recently found a couple on eBay that are already going for too much. Two days left and they are already 21.50 with a bidding war and they need drilled. (3rd pic) Instead I got 3 barrels that are new, that never even were on a revolver coming for 40 bucks shipped. I think I can recoup my money down the pike.

Hope this works.

So you're going to strip a sight blade from one of the new barrels and install it on your Service Six barrel? I hope the holes are drilled the same. I've made sights by hacksawing/filing out of flat stock to get what I wanted. If your swap doesn't work out keep that in mind as an option.

Thanks for reading and thinking about my post BBBBill.
I had asked my machinist buddy to cut one to the size of my existing one after we removed it and he said he would. Of course we would have had quite a job to do it that way.
There's no harm in drilling a second hole in the GP100 site if these don't line up, and he'll still be helping me with a punch and a good drill bit if needed.
If this works, I'll have three barrels to sell or give away and two extra sights if I screw up ( actually have the one off my revolver too ).
For a total gamble on $40.00 total cost, I think it's a no brainer and maybe a lot less work.

Down the road maybe somebody will find this post and it will help them out. Whether this works out or not, I know others have been looking to replace their missing or damaged sights like I have.

Hopefully, if it is off, it will be far enough off that the new hole will be lower than the current hole or off to one side. Any overlap might make the hole too loose to retain the sight firmly.

FYI, just in case you've considered it, the barrel thread pitch is the same for the Six Series and the GP-100. However the diameter is different. Six Series is .560" OD (9/16" minus) and the GP is 5/8".

This gamble paid off. Those sights on eBay sold for $41.00
I got three brand new GP-100 barrels for $40.00 shipped.
Today I got to punch out the pin on a couple of these Ruger GP-100 fixed sight models and the one off my Ruger Service Six.

These fit right in place and the holes lined right up. The difference in height, I can deal with. My revolver was shooting low before so now I'll just have to shoot with the front sight covering my target.
I theorize that a 6 o'clock hold would be a bit lower than before, but leveling my revolver with the post sticking up between the rear fixed sight and directly over what I want to hit should be right on.
Now ... to save a sight for later, sell two barrels without sights dirt cheap, and sell the snubby with a sight for a good price and I made out pretty good.
Bottom line is that GP-100 fixed sights WILL fit in a Service Six without any modifications. I actually can find my front post easier and I am sure I will be a better shot with the taller sight.
Not precise, because a "bullseye" would be blocked in the view maybe but it will shoot on target well enough for what this revolver is made to do.

Shot this today and it is quite an improvement. It still shot lower than I expected so my target is not blocked the way I thought it might be and the 6 o'clock hold is closer than I expected.
Need to practice more but I'm good to go.
