I’ve been running a YHM can with the a YHM QD brake mount on my Ruger Gunsite Scout Rifle for years without issue, but just purchased a Thunder Beast Ultra-5 that I want to run direct thread for weight savings. I was planning to use a Hansohn Brothers direct thread adapter. However, because of the way the barrel is cut on this rifle to accommodate the front sight, the shoulder width is very narrow. Is this going to be a problem, or is it safe to assume that it should work since I had no issues with the QD mount setup?

You really want no less than .040" shoulder width on centerfire rifles, meaning barrel OD at shoulder .080" over thread major.

Doesn't mean you'll automatically have problems with less, but retention and repeatability can become issues with the smaller bearing surface. With a narrow shoulder, a muzzle device secured with thread locker is the best way to mitigate those issues.

It measures right around 0.04", maybe a hair less. To be safe, I've decided to send it of to Thunder Beast to modify the barrel. They say the solution with these is to machine the front portion of the front sight to provide a square shoulder. Never thought of that.
