I need help. Right now I am NOT looking to ship my Ruger Mark II. I am looking for a local gunsmith who specializes in Ruger handguns in the Northeast Pa area near or around Scranton. I know we have members in the area and maybe someone knows of a good gunsmith who is local.

Thank you in advance.

Good luck with that. There isn't any around here and I live in amongst 2 million people.

Call Ruger and see if they will send you a shipping label. I had some work done on my MKII and they paid the freight. They did an excellent job also.

Grin and bear it.:D

Yes, it would be interesting to see what sort of work you need to have done. I've been working on Ruger Mark pistols since 1970 and have seen just about everything possible that can go wrong, or needing upgrades for these pistols.
Have a Ruger Mark III 22/45 in my milling machine right now whereby the customer wants Ruger front and rear sights installed. Will post pictures when done.

Do you pull and reinstall barrels? I have a Mk II stainless that will not feed reliably. The barrel was installed about 10 degrees off vertical. Thought it was just the front sight at first, but noticed that the feed ramp is canted at the same angle. I have 5 of the 22s in different variations. That is the only one that has given me any trouble.

Unfortunately, Ruger uses a "crush fit" when they install barrels into receivers. Very easy to collapse the tube receiver without having the right holding devices. I would try Volquartsen or Clark Custom. Both outfits remove barrels on a regular basis. No reason why the couldn't clock your barrel to where it should be.

First thing to do is to time the barrel right and then second, retest the feeding.

OK, it's not a short story.

I have had this Mark II for many years. It is a Clark Custom and extremely accurate. I have disassembled, cleaned and reassembled this pistol too many times to count. The last time I cleaned it I could not get it back together. I brought it to a local Smith and he thinks the modified assembly pin might be worn and not aligning properly. He was honest enough to tell me he wasn't sure and to try and find a good Ruger gunsmith.

This is my favorite rimfire pistol and I'm heartbroken. I just want my gun back.

I spoke to Clark Custom who were very nice and they suggested I try to find someone locally before I spend the money to send it to them.

That's interesting. You bought, or had the pistol done, from Clark Custom, but they don't want to help you out getting it done right? The modified assembly pin? I assume you are referring to the "bolt stop pin" in the top of the mainspring housing assembly? How was that modified? They are quite easy to replace.

ArchAngel, if you could post a multitude of photos of the problem for example, the top of the frame, underside of receiver, view through the disassembly pin hole etc. Could be some folks here that could spot something. This forum's got some sharp cookies, somebody might spot something that could help you out.

BTW Clark did my standard MK1 and as far as I know the only mod that I know of other than the trigger, overtravel and take up screw is that perhaps they use a more precision bushing in the hammer.

Yes, the bolt stop pin, the had to modify it at the top to clear the sights screw they also installed. They had to remove half of the top of the pin. There is little of the original pistol left, barrel, sights, trigger and others stuff too. The gun was done at least 15 years ago.

Clark Custom was more than willing to fix the problem, they were trying to save me the shipping costs which as you know are high because of the overnight shipping required because in not an FFL. They even tried to talk me through the assemble since they weren't sure it was just me not knowing how to do it. They were extremely nice and helpful.

If I can't find anyone locally soon I'm going to have to send it to them.

If you could find a local FFL who's willing to work with you, he can actually ship a handgun USPS priority mail for around $16.00, but only to another FFL, which would be Clark Custom. I do that all the time with other FFL's willing to work that way. It just takes one simple form available at the post office, and very easy to do. That's a far cry cheaper than the over-night delivery by air shipment that Fed-EX and UPS require and charge exorbitant prices to do. And, the heck of it is, if it's shipped on a Friday, it does not arrive over-night.

They do indeed use a much better fitting hammer bushing in the hammer. Also the hammer bushing pivot pin fits the bushing bore much better and the right end of the pivot pin is a bit longer and fits flush with the outside right face of the grip frame. If you notice the right end of the factory Mark pistol bushing pivot pin looks like it was "sheared off" for length rather than finished off as the Clark pin is.
