I need help here! Does anyone know of a GOOD Ruger Gunsmith in the Northeast PA area, more specifically in the Scranton Wilkes Barre area? I just can't seem to find one, I'm starting to doubt they even exist here.

I have a Mark II that was worked on by Clark Custom and I would rather not have to send it back to Louisiana if I don't have to.

Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Send it back to Ruger. They will service their own firearms at a reasonable price

That won't work, like I said in my OP the gun was modified by Clark Custom. If I send it to River they will remove all the parts including the Clark Custom barrel to put it back to factory specs. Please read the post before answering.
What are you needing done?
It's a little complicated. I took the gun apart like I have done many times to clean and oil it and this time the gun will not go back together. The takedown pin looks like it was modified to fit the new Clark Custom parts and it now seems to be loose. I have a feeling the pin assembly needs to be replaced but none of the local Gunsmiths want to touch it because of the work done on it. They are not however well versed in Ruger handguns, that why I asked about a good Ruger smith.

I really miss shooting this gun. It's the most accurate .22 I have ever shot, I mean extremely accurate. That pistol even makes this old man look good lol.

J.C. Blauvelt in Milford is an excellent gunsmith. He's pretty busy, but you will get a realistic time estimate, and he doesn't have you drop off the gun until he's ready to start work on it.

Milford is about as "northeast" as you can get and still be in PA, though -- I don't know how far that is from Scranton.

EDIT TO ADD: Scranton to Milford is 52.7 miles, according to Google Maps.

If it the latch assembly that main spring (hammer) load up on, you may not have it setting in the recess area corectly. May want to unlatch and try again.

Have your contacted Clark to see what they say? They have probably run into this before and may send you a part without sending the gun in.

I have a MKIII that I've not some mods too. It fun to shoot and with a 18oz trigger you only have to touch it for it to go off. Everyone who shoots it fall in loaves with it so it so fun to shoot. It does treat you to good gun safety, "Don't touch the trigger till your ready to shoot."

. . . and it now seems to be loose.
I can't be sure. . . but those words could describe the classic "MkII hammer strut out of place" that is blamed for all the world's ills, despite being well described in the manual. If you aren't familiar, go read it.

I agree with blue68f100 and edwardware, you most likely don't have it reassembled correctly. I'm not familiar with that conversion, but the basics usually still apply, so take it out and try again.
All those gunsmiths passing up easy money....

I thought it was my fault because I was reassembling it incorrectly but I have done it dozens and dozens of times before. I completely disassembled the gun several times with the exact same results. Also, like I said, I had several gunsmiths try without success.

Yes, I did write Clark Custom and they said I could send it to them but like I said, I would rather not have my gun in the hands of delivery people. I was hoping to find someone who is good with Rugers in my area.

I want to thank everyone for all the help so far.

I wish I could help you but don't know what Clark did or changed on the gun??
Been messing with MII's for many years, have more than "one" of them.:)
My MII Bull barrel was the first new gun I ever bought. Still have the box and papers. Back then VQ parts were the thing to do for trigger jobs.

Best 22 pistol ever. Then Ruger went and messed with the newer versions.

Can you give a better description of what's happening when you assemble the pistol? I have a pair of Mk 1s and might be able to make a suggestion or two on whats going on.
