hey guys I want your opinios on these two guns both in 30-06 and I shoot left handed,so both models would be left handed.I have a savage 116 flss in 270 win that I would trade for one or the other, the savage is a good gun but I want a bigger caliber that could handle the great bears.thanks.

Both very nice rifles. The 700 will likely be more accurate, but the hawkeye is more than accurate enough for hunting. If you are buying new I would go with the Ruger. IMO their quality today is higher than Remington.

If you get a Rem 700 buy a pre-2007 model, CCM has killed Remington QC they recently ranked the LEAST accurate bolt gun in a multi-rifle comparison. I would personally get the Ruger even though I hate their recoil pads with a passion.

There are many reasons not to buy a Remington, but not buying one based on the accuracy comparison in Shooting Times is nothing short of moronic. A significant test would involve a lot more firearms from each manufacturer and probably a wider selection of ammunition.

I no longer buy Remington 700s because I prefer the features on the Kimber 84/8400 and Winchester M70 models but the 700 is still a good choice for many people.

No I don't buy them because my last three were all defective, I swore off Remington long before that comparison. Piss poor QC I won't be buying another as long as CCM owns them.
Tikka, Browning, Savage, CZ, Sako, Winchester, Weatherby, and T/C all make better rifles IMHO.

I'm surprised that you bought a second one let alone a third. I only had to buy one Savage to convince myself that I won't buy any more. Not because I felt that every Savage rifle was bad, but simply because of the CS department at Savage. Every company produces subpar products but it's how they deal with those "anomalies" that matters.

As for "piss poor QC" ... that's just your experience and there are numerous new Remington owners who are very pleased with their rifles. By thy way, I bought a post 2007 Remington 700 Alaskan Ti rifle that was extremely well made with excellent fit, finish and function. Accuracy is outstanding too.

The .30-06 is not much more powerful than the .270, especially if you are not hand loading. To put significantly more power down range, you have to step up to a 30 cal. magnum.

I have a Ruger M77 Mark II in .338 win mag that has been a very good addition. Very accurate and 4,000 ft. lb. of muzzle energy with Federal factory loads using 250 gr. partitions. I think this is very similar to the Hawkeye except for the trigger and shape of the stock.

My only experience with Remington is prior to their being acquired.

I have a 7mm rem mag ruger m77 made in 1976. I bought it a few months ago along with a box of remington factory ammo. It shot very well with a little over an inch 3 shot group. Great for a hunting rifle. I paid 400 for it along with a great redfield scope that was mounted on the rifle for probably a good while

Right now the Ruger is the much better option. Twenty years ago, or if comparing 20 year old used guns it is a closer comparison with the Remington probably slightly better.

This describes my feelings about the Rem 700 as well.

Ruger has been the better option since the Hawkeye came out-they really got their act together on that one
I have several 77MkIIs and Hawkeyes, and I am very well pleased with all of them. The Hawkeye's trigger is a great field trigger - not a bench trigger by any means, but a very good trigger for field use....
