For years I have bought Ruger products and have recommended them to my friends and colleagues. However, after my experience today, I may stop.
My LCP is on it's third take down pin, the other two pins' heads were sheared off by the slide while practicing. Ruger sent me a third one, free of charge. So today I go to the range to retest the gun with the new pin. On the 7th round (Hornady Critical Defense) the entire upper portion of the slide "explodes", at least that's how it appeared!
The whole slide flew off and I could see the slide go to the right and the recoil spring and guide rod go to the left. I was able to retrieve my parts and put the gun back together. The new slide pin was not staying in the hole but slides out freely. So it appears the slide pin spring is bad.
So, naturally I call Ruger. I was kindly informed that since my gun was manufactured in 2008 that it was below the "cut off" for them to send me a shipping label. I would have to pay my own shipping overnight UPS or Fed Ex. As we know, that is NOT cheap! I had never heard that before. I explained that these issues I am having are manufacturing issues, but I made no headway. I requested the manger to call me back, but have not heard from him.
Anyone else have this problem with Ruger?? Anyone got any other contact information with whom I can address this problem?
