I'm at the range this morning and I saw the strangest thing.

A guy next to me was shooting a Ruger LCP and when he got to the last shot in the mag the slide shot foward off the gun into the range about 7 yards. Never seen anything like it but thank God no one was hurt. We all stopped and found the slide, spring and guide and eve the pin that holds the slide in.
Once reassembled nothing looked wrong but the guy rightfully would not shoot the gun again.

I have this same gun so I don't know what happened but this was realy strange.

Anyone see anything like this?

I saw a S&W 1911 fail similar to this once. The barrel link sheered off and the entire slide flew forward. No injuries. I don't know if the factory ever identified the original cause to the owner.

It would truly suck if it flew toward shooters face.

With a modern gun, it would have to literally crumble apart the internals including the rails to do that. Only one semi auto that I know of could fly backwards because that's the way the slide is taken off. The Colt 1903 Pocket Hammer.

You are right. That was actually the slide cracking in half. I was thinking more of the entire slide.
