Ruger LCR .357

I looked at one recently and didn't buy it. I bought a SP101 instead. I don't want to try and shoot .357 mag out of a featherlight.

I'm interested in one of these. Not to shoot .357s out of, but rather because the .357 frame is made out of steel and weighs 4oz more than the .38-only aluminum version. I like overbuilt. I have a 2.25" sp101 and I think the LCR would compliment it.

Now here's the big question--how is the LCR trigger?

Ive shot a many pistols that have nearly twisted out of my hand entirely from recoil, and yes i was holding on tight as i could at all times, i like the 357 magnum LCR i would consider it, because 357 magnum has a really good one shot stop chance. Long as i can hold on to the gun i dont care about recoil, hell my life would be on the line if i needed to use a LCR so why care about looks or recoil? this is a SD pistol its what it was designed for. Also i reload so short barrels wont be a problem if i use fast burning powders.

Uhh . . . yeah. I've shot .357 Magnum out of snubbies lighter than my SP101 and found the experience to be the sort of hand-numbing experience I'd never want to repeat again, ever. Don't get me wrong, I liked the .38 Special LCR, but for .357 Magnum I think I'll stick to my big hunk-o-steel SP101.

The flame cutting issue was addressed on another board. The jist of the comment was that when a light-for-caliber round was used (e.g. .38 spc. w/110gr.) the timing of the powder burn vs. the time the round leaves the chamber and enters the forcing cone does not allow for complete powder burn within the chamber resulting in excess powder burn between the chamber and the forcing cone, resulting in the flame cutting. This comment wa from a life-long gunsmith. I guess I will acquess to his expertise. I also hope I have been able to explain his comment w/o distortion. Best.....

I agree completelywith EnsignJimmy! The LCR with +P rounds is NOT pleasent...let alone with a .357! I'm really not a fan of the .357 in my 101! I keep Buffalo Bore .38 158Gr.SWCHP GC +P for indoor use and a speedloader with Silvertips for last ditch....Best.....
