HI,
My 60year old sister is looking for a carry gun to have at the barn and
home. She's fired my LCP and is ok with the recoil but has issues
with racking the slide. Tried my Glocks and still has a tough time.
Can't find a LCR rental around, my experiance tells me the LCR
will not be any worse to handle than the LCP as far as recoil.
She's also fired my Security Six with 125 grain .357mag loads with
out issues.
Any feedback on the LCR would be helpful.
Thanks
Dave

ooohh, If I can get my wife out of bed I will let you know. "her" nice new KLCR is sitting in the safe ready to go. I gave it to her on Tuesday, it is time to try it out. WAKE UP BABE!!!

Find my .38 lcr has very managible recoil probably due to its polymere control housing and the houge grips. I swear it seems to recoil less than my sp101 stainless despite its light weight. Hard to go wrong. You have a lot more ammo versatality with .38 special so you could load it with light ammo. I would suggest the trijicon night sights. Much better for aiming.

i recently traded my LCP for an LCR...Im glad I did...the recoil "feels" lesser as the LCR grip fills your hand WAY better than the LCP's narrow grip

IMO: The LCR will spank your hand more because revolvers don't mitigate recoil as much as locked breech auto-loaders.

But if she can handle a LCP .380 without problems?
She can handle a LCR .38 Spl without problems.

So took out the KLCR, and first of all it is sweet. I was apprehensive about .357 in such a little gun but honestly it kicked less than the 4" k-frame it was sitting next to. The wife ran a box of .38 special and a box of .38 +p through with no problems. She is 93lbs and has small hands, but had no complaints about felt recoil. Test ammo was all remington green and white box from wally world.

.38 130gr FMJ
.38 +P 125gr SJHP
.357 125gr SJSP

If she can shoot an LCP she will have no issues with the LCR.

My wife shot my LCR with CT grips exactly 4 times and handed it to me and said the last one and the rest of them were mine. Im guessing its one gun she wont be taking over.

Tips on LCR:

Stay with the cushy rubber grips, not the CT grips.

Choke up and grip it high. The little, ribbed area with the RUGER logo should be in or slightly under the web of your hand.

Recoil drives straight back. That rubber squishy spot makes a big difference.

Personally, I would rather run 38+Ps out of the LCR than .38ps out of pocket guns (I have a Taurus 738, not the LCP), but I need the ultra thin design of the auto.

Thanks for the replys, looks a little divided on the issue. Going to ask
around at the range and try to find one for her to shoot. She put a
box of 50 rounds through my LCP with no complaints other than
manipulating the slide. Then fired my Glock 36 for maybe 35-40 rounds
of 230 grain with no complaints of recoil and much better groups.
My gut feeling is the LCR should be fine......

Get a box of wadcutters or cowboy loads and the recoil shouldn't scare her away. Plus p loads are a handful in my LCR, but it's more comfortable than most LW snubbies.

I tried an LCP and thought the recoil was painful. Thin, hard plastic pounding itself into your hands, because its so small its awkward to hold. I'd rather shoot max loads from a 44Mag. The LCP also jammed from failure to eject at least once every magazine. I have an LCR with a boot grip and can't believe how little recoil is felt for as much it weighs.
