Hey guys. I have a Ruger Mark 1 standard from when I was a kid, digging it out of the safe and dusting it off, maybe put this thing through its paces. Wondering if any of you know any worthwhile upgrades? I see there's a Clark trigger available but apparently the trigger on Mk1 Rugers are a real honey to get out on account of an e-clip or something? In either case it says online changing the trigger in and of itself won't do very much, although I do like the overstop screw on the Clark.

Volquartsen has an upgraded extractor and firing pin I'm probably going to go for, and if I can't get it to shoot ballpark POA I may be looking at some adjustable sights. But as far as the Mark 1 goes that's about all I'm seeing? I think there might be a firing pin bushing out there, I think by Clark too. Is that a worthwhile upgrade?

Not opposed to digging around the works so long as there isn't serious danger of buggering something. To give a sense of my comfort level I've built an AR, detail stripped a 1911 and replaced the firing pin stop and safety, rebuilt a Marlin 1894 and of course I've already gone through the fun of breaking down this Mk1.

The speed strip kit and extended mag lever from Majestic Arms are good. The speed strip lets you leave the mainspring in and take the bolt out with an allen screw, it also comes with trigger bushings that give it a much more consistent pull. Last I checked they were $40, helluva lot cheaper than anything VQ.

Hey that's fantastic, basically everything I was looking for right there in one kit.

Does it not work as is ?? .......iffen it ain't broke don't fix it comes to mind here....
ALSO, there is no such thing as a MKI STANDARD. It is either a MKI with adjustable sights and is rollmarked on the left side " MARK I ", or it is a STANDARD with a 4 3/4" or 6" BBL, fixed sights, and that DEElightful slick look that took the 22 pistolworld by storm and put almost ALL of it's competitors out of business.

There's a lot of folks that think the Mk I's were just about perfect just as they came out of the box. And likely yours is already neatly slicked up by simply using it a lot as a kid. So don't give in to this mod'itis trend that seems so popular these days. If it worked when you put it away simply clean and lube it and find some ammo to shoot with it.

If it turns out that it has a problem or your taste in trigger feel has moved on THEN consider modification parts.

I wish I still had the Red Eagle Standard I had when I was a teenager!

If I still had it, I would not change a thing, except put a new recoil spring assembly in it!

Mine sure didn't need any fixing or mods to make it better!

I agree that it probably doesn't need anything. I have a mid 60's bull Target with a stock trigger that is nearly as good as my MKII's that have had trigger work.
