I decided to switch out the factory front sight on my Mark3 22/45 bull barrell with a hiviz fiber optic front sight.

Easily done with just unscrewing the front sight screw, swaping out the the sights and screwing the hiviz back in.

Until I realized that Ruger makes their front sights out of Clay formed into screws.

How do I get this screw off, its almost stripped, I even made a screw driver with a grinder (perfectly suited for the slot) to unscrew it. It didnt move at all.

Help needed high roaders.....am I going to have to take this to a gunsmith?

Sorry to hear about your trouble. I recently swapped the front sights between my two Mark III's and the screws were fine. I just did like you tried to do but did not have any problems, so it seems you were on the right track. I did use a bit of penetrating oil (liquid wrench) before attempting to remove the screws. I let it sit about 5 minutes and then pushed down hard and supported the barrel and twisted and all was good. You might try that, but let it sit a bit longer and give it several drops to let it soak in. ALso, tap the sight/screw lightly to help the oil work its way in.

That is all I know. Good luck.

Try a heat gun or hold a soldering iron to the screw. Someone may have used loc-tite.

I put a fiber optic front on my MKII slabsides and had no trouble, although I had to cut the screw a bit as it was too long for the new front sight's thinner base.
