I have the opportunity to pick up a 2" heavy barrel Ruger Mark II with box and extra mag.

Snooping around the internet there is little info on the 2" heavy, some web pages even say the Mark II was only made in 4 to 10"

Whats the beef? is it rare?

Perhaps it's a chop job. What would the advantage be in a 2" ? I'd rather have 10" that is not available in the MKIII.

I have never seen or heard of a Ruger .22 MK series guns that short. As others have pointed out there would be little point to a target gun with a 2" barrel. I ma not saying it is impossible for it to be original but if I was beating $$$ on it I would bet its a chop job.

There was a model with a short barrel called the Backpacker or something, but I doubt if it is two inches.

The part sticking beyond the front of the frame might be two inches, but this is not how you measure an auto pistol barrel. Alternatively, it might be a chop job, albeit a careful one, or the length is just misstated.
