ruger mini-14 180 series stock questions

i have what i others are telling me is a 180 series stock. they have told me that if it doesnt fit a regular mini 14 without having to remove wood to make it fit then its a 180 stock and is rare and worth money. is there a quick easy way to tell for sure? the difference seems to be at the reciever, under the chamber where there is two kinda boxed out looking knobs that remind me of hippo teeth. anyway, the hippo teeth have no where to go in the stock and to make it work id have to remove wood.

anyone out there know what im talking about? is this a 180 series stock or what? thanks.

I'll just add this on. Is the 180 series better than others, ow what is the deal with them? Sorry for sounding stupid.

The 180-series Mini-14s were the first production run. Ruger made some design changes starting with the 181-series. Stocks meant for the 181-series and later guns will not fit the 180-series. I don't know how to tell the difference.

If you do have a stock for a 180-series gun I'll bet you can find a buyer for it. 180-series stocks are hard to find.

thank you dave. ive looked all over google as well as thr for some way to tell the difference. no luck yet. im hoping someone here will be an expert on em, or just happen to have a collection of them and know all the differences. ill take pics and post em here in a bit. maybe that will help.

i found some info outside of thr saying that the series is just what the first 3 numbers are in the serial number. the gun im trying to put this stock on is a 183 series. best i can find is that all series 181 and higher are the same, so the fact that this one doesnt fit shoud be a confirmation that its a 180 series stock. problem is that id need to cut some wood out to make the 183 series fit and i dont want to do that to a stock someone else would need and might not be able to find. anyway, thank you to everyone for helping me figure this out. ill be selling the stock on ebay. i will give a discount of free shipping inside the 48 states to any thr member who bids on it. look for it on ebay soon. ill be listing it in the next few minutes. if you buy it via ebay please let me know your a thr member so i dont charge you shipping.
