Recently mounted a scope on my Mini-30 and used Ruger rings lower than what came with the gun.

My question is: Are these lower rings the cause of dings on my fired casings or does this gun put dings in the casings even without a scope mounted?

I now have this scope mounted using the higher rings that came with the gun. Will soon find-out.

Actually about half of the fired casings did not have dings.

Try it without the rings to be sure!

They gotta be hitting on something when they get ejected. I don't think its much of a problem, but I could see where it could be annoying.

Possible its hitting on the chamber edge or shell deflector or something like that?

Had three mini 30s in the early 2000s, two blued with scopes and one stainless without- seem to remember they would all dent their ejected cases pretty good- they were nonreloadable steel anyway and can't recall any jams at all, so I didn't care....incidentally I think all the 30s were ranch rifles and used side ejection specifically to avoid scope damage, older 14s required brass deflectors as they were top ejectors.

They're probably getting whacked by the op rod/charging handle, and has nothing to do with scope height. My irons only Mini-14 does it too. Look on the op rod for brass markings, mine is gettin hit on the right side, in front of the actual handle, next to the front ring mount.
