I must be an idiot! :banghead:

I must have done something really stupid when reassembling BOTH! my Mini-14 and Mini Thirty because the bolt is locked fully forward and the slide handle doesn't move. The safety won't move either.

Has anyone ever encountered this?
Is there a way to disassemble the rifles to correct it or am I bound to have to send them both back to Ruger?

Thanks in advance.

did you cock the trigger before assembly?pull triiger mech out and start over.make sure rear of slide is in the groove

I tried to pull the trigger asseembly out but was unable to move the safety switch to on to do so.

If its not cocked, you can't put the safety on. Just pry up and unhook the trigger guard and yank the trigger group out. Cock the hammer to the rear and reassemble.

I just talked to a tech in Ruger customer service and he walked me through a way of moving the slide handle.

He suggestedy pressing the handle against a bench edge (I used the dining room table - don't tell my wife!) and tapping the butt with my palm. It worked and not it moves freely. He thought the rifle may have been over-oiled.

Thanks for the suggestions here.

That's total BS, and I don't care if Bill Rugers ghost said it his self.

I have no idea what was wrong, but it sure as heck wasn't caused by too much oil!

+1. That's crazy. Glad you got everything working again.

That is not unheard of in the mini series. The gas piston can seize in the cylinder, NOT caused by over lubrication, but not cleaning the piston thoroughly. It usually happens when the rifles are fairly new, moral of the story: clean the gas system once in awhile.

Had a mini 14 locked up from sitting in the sale rack. Could not open the bolt. Someone dropped the hammer on it. The firing pin rusted into the bolt face. Stainless steel rifle too. But i could take it apart in the normal manner to clean it & get it working.

I'm with 1K on this one... never had one lock up like that... now I have WANTED to beat them apart at times,, but it was more to my shooting ability than to the gun design... or the way I assembled it..

It was the darndest thing. And I'm pretty thorough about cleaning them.
Bottom line, at least the rifles are working now.

Did you have the bolt lock out when you reinstalled the bolt (The little plate on the left side of the receiver)? If the bolt lock is not removed, the bolt will not seat right in the guide channels. At least that was my stupid error when I had the same problem.
