I am sad, the feed ramp on my long time friend (my Ruger MKI) is in bad shape from years of shooting and it is starting to cause intermittent problems. I am wondering if a Ruger MKII barrel will fit my Ruger MkI? If not is there any way to fix the feed ramp?

Thanks

A MKII barrel will fit, but a used MKII will run you about the same cost as a MKII barrel and a gunsmith fitting it.

I would consider trying a different magazine, or retiring the pistol in favor of a used MKII. Depending on the wear/damage, it may be able to be fixed, but I have never heard of a feed ramp on a Ruger .22 auto pistol wearing out. Without actually inspecting the ramp myself, I would wager a spring change in the bolt, or a magazine change will revitalize the pistol, especially if you can't pinpoint damage.

Numrich used to have MKI barrels for $45 or so, but they are long sold out. They also used to have barreled recievers for MKIIs for $150 or so, also sold out.

Call/e-mail Ruger, they stand behind everything they sell and I'm pretty sure they will still service/support the MkI. Whatever they charge for polishing/replacing the feed ramp and/or barrel will be insignificant compared to the extra cost, time, grief, aggravation, and loss of peace of mind involved in either trying to DIY-fix it or having an ill-equipped gun-butcher try his hand.

Kor makes a very good point. Contact Ruger first.

Nice pistol! It would be a shame to lose the originality.

Can you post a picture of the feed ramp damage?

I have nothing to add, but I am curious how many K's of rounds it took for you to damage your MK I.

I will see if I can get a macro lens from my buddy this weekend and then I will post the photos.

As far as the round count I have no idea. My Grandfather purchased this gun somewhere around 1950. He carried the thing damn near everywhere he went and I know he shot it a lot. My dad then shot it a lot and I have shot it a lot.

No offense, but I'm wracking my brain trying to figure out how somebody could wear down the feed ramp on a tank like a Ruger 22. Unless you fired it full auto, maybe.

Get back to us on that. I'd be very interested to know if that's the problem.

Full auto -uh, no. I have a fast trigger finger but I am no Jerry Miculek.

It always amazes me when people say that something is hard to believe or that they doubt the facts just because they themselves have never seen it.
