Bummer thanks for sharing the experience. If that gun was 100% you would have had a keeper. Glad they made it right and you got a gun your happy with.

Been a while, figured I'd update this thread. Got final word back that it wouldn't be repaired and was given credit toward something else. It was funny- one of the gentlemen pointed out another Ruger/Volquartsen MK custom they had- politely declined, my lesson somewhat learned. Ended up getting another Tikka t1x so I could have a shooting partner from time to time.

Most unusual. I have seen several Volquartsen barreled Ruger MK II' and MKIII's on the 2700 Bullseye firing line. Yours is the first to have the cylinder wall crack right at the extractor groove. I would say it is a combination of the extractor cut being too thin, and maybe the stainless was brittle in that location. I really doubt the extractor would do that, as I would see more of that.

The shop took care of you and that is all to the good. I wonder what they will do with that pistol. I will bet the cost of replacing the barrel in that upper was more than they could ever hope to get out of the pistol in profit, when you take into account what they already had in the pistol.

I know in the 1980's when Volquartsen was barreling 10/22's, they were using Lothar Walther barrels, and the tube I have is great. Too bad about this pistol, it should have been tack driver.

Thanks for posting. That's an area I'll try to remember to check if I'm ever in the market for another .22 pistol. Really too bad it didn't work out. I can see why you were drawn to it.
