Curious about this lever-action .22mag.

Reputation? Reliability? Range reports? Experience/ownership? Pics? Cheers/jeers?

Thanks y'all!

Can't wait to get a .22mag rifle/autoloading pistol combo!

No longer in production. If you want one, and you have a line on one, better get it.

I wouldn't want one, but what the hey.

I've own and have owned a variety of 22 Mag rifles over the years. The Ruger model 96 and the Winchester 9422M were the least accurate of them. They are both long gone. The bolt action 22 mags have always done much better for me.

.22 Magnum and lever guns just aren't the best match, to me, as Runningman says.

The .22 Magnum makes most sense in a scoped bolt gun (and then only if you have a defined purpose for it).

Check out the Henry lever guns in .22 magnum. I have one and like it. They are still in production, and will probably be easier to find at a good price.

I have owned both. I am a Winchester man from way back, but I sold the Winchester and kept the Ruger. Both were as accurate as I could shoot.
I have grabbed the Winchester to take a shot and missed the chance, because the tubular magazine had released itself, and shot mag tube and bullets clear across the pick-up.
Another aggrivation was if I got ready to shoot, and didn't take the shot, I would have to release the tube and jack 2 bullets out to empty it. (I never leave a bullet under the hammer, I have to empty barrel even if for a couple minutes) (I have never had any gun that wasn't loaded, just not in the barrel in rifles)
The Ruger has the box mag. Much simpler. Much more user friendly for the way I use them.
I just really like it.
Either way you will have a good rifle.

I had one I sold here on THR last year. I thought it shot great, never any problems.
This was my second lever action rifle. I am left handed and I personally don't like the lever operation. Not just on the Ruger but on the Marlin I sold as well. The 96/22M was a sweet little gun. I put the Williams Fire-sights on with the ghost ring and it was plenty accurate for 100yd plinking. I currently have the little Taurus model 72 carbine- the little pump action that for me is a much more natural action.

If it makes a difference for ya, you can get a 25 or 30 round mag for the Ruger. Can't do that with a tube fed easily.

kanook, for .22 Magnum?

Col., I have a Ruger 96 with few rounds through it - so far, so good. The magazines are a bit pricey, but durable. I found Bud's to be about the best price for the magazines. No real report on accuracy, but initial zeroing at 25y produced nice tight (sub 1 inch) groups.

yes for the 22mag. They are now back to semi normal prices at $25-$30 each at our gunshow.

Who makes 'em (the large capacity magazines for Rem 96 lever 22mag)?

Why did Remington stop making the 96 and, more disappointingly, the 10/22mag???

Shooters Ridge is one and I believe Ram Line is another. You are now posting Rem and Remington, you still mean Ruger?

Yes, sorry.

RUGER 96 and 10/22mag; as in, "what, they didn't sell all they made so they stopped???"

Ever have one of the Mossberg 640 series? Some lucky fellow in OK is taking care of the varmints that was rousting his chickens with my trusty old 640KB Chuckster now.
