In trying to find out more about .22mag semi's, levers, etc. I was informed of the existence of Taurus rifles in the old 'cowboy' action pump. They make them in pistol calibers and have almost no information in their online catalog or full-line specs about anything but the .45LC

Found a separate link from a search page, but was wondering if anyone here has experience with them, range reports, etc. for the .22mag? Much obliged!

The 72 and 62 were discontinued. I got the last one on the shelf and like it. It functions flawlessly with CCI and jams something awful with Dyna Points which are junk anyhow. My daughter uses it mostly for her plinker.

I'm not real fond of the rear sight so I might replace it with something else eventually. Out of the box it was moving fist size caliche rocks around at the twenty five yard line.

Anything else you need to know about it just ask.

thanks! I guess the most important question is the least likely you'll be able to answer: "Where can I find one?"

Frustrating to find they've discontinued. Looks like they carried them at Bud's but are out and probably never going to restock since they're discontinued.

Also disappointed to find out the Ruger 96 .22mag lever and the 10/22mag are discontinued. Seems really silly and needless. I'm sure there's more demand for 22mag than just bolt-actions can supply. I know Henry makes a pump or lever but at $450+ who needs it? Also having trouble finding a .22mag semi pistol. Seems like manufacturers hate the cartridge...

I bought the 72 several months ago for my son without doing my homework and bringing him in to fit the rifle. Turns out the 72 is too big and heavy for him, so I started him on a Cricket and have a Plinkster Jr. wood stock 10 rounder waiting for him to get a little more time behind a rifle.

That being said, I am thinking about selling the 72. Not sure a .22 mag is going to be right for quite some time, and I don't have that much room in the safe to store it. It has no rounds through it, but no box. I will likely put it on Gunbroker in the very near future, unless there is a compelling reason for me to hang on to it. Any thoughts?

I have the .22LR version and am very satisfied with it. When I was looking for a .22M repeater (non-bolt action) the one most mentioned was the Winchester 94/22M. They are up there in price, but apparently very well respected. The Ruger 96/22M works well and has the distinction of a detachable magazine.

I think the Taurus 72 is a sweet rifle.
I've got the 172 (.17HMR) stainless carbine, and it's unbeatable for slinging around the woods. I wish I had the identical rifle in .22mag, tho, as I prefer that round and it doesn't copper-foul as fast.

They *briefly* made a lever-action version of the same action in .22LR. I wanted THAT in .22mag too, also as a stainless carbine. That would do away with the fore-end rattle.

I'm lukewarm on most of Taurus's products, but I thought the 62/72/172 series was very well executed, and since it's simply not a winchester, going with modern materials and a short barrel didn't bug me at all. In fact it really makes the gun. I did replace the sights.

I have the 62 .22LR. Older version without the cockamamie safety on the bolt. And the 72 .17HMR carbine. It is a nice little gun to keep hanging and ready for the occasional beligerent coon or feral cat.

I have the model 72 in 22 mag and only wish I could have afforded to get both the 22 and 22 mag at the same time. Dandy little rifle. Very accurate with the tang mounted aperture sight installed on it. It's also a takedown if that appeals.

I have the 62, 72 and 172 versions. My favorite is the carbine length
in 22 magnum. Member Daizee is spot-on when he mentions copper
fouling in the 17 HMR caliber. I find it necessary to clean the barrel
after each box of 50.
