Does anyone own a Ruger 96/22m .22mag? I want to buy a .22mag, I like the 96/22m lever action, but have heard nothing about it. Curious about accuracy mainly. I know they stopped producing them but I think I can get one from a friend. I read somewhere that the accuracy is not too good. I do like the Henry Lever .22mag, but I like the Ruger cuz I am really used to my 10/22 and they have almost the same stock. Also have heard great things about savage and marlins bolt action .22mag. So I dont know what to do. But the 96/22m is 1st on my list right now. Also is there a big diffrence in the Henry's rifles, octagonal vs round barrel? I know the Octagonal is heavier but is there a diffrence in accuracy with the heavier barrel. Just curious, cuz the round barrel is cheaper and I am trying to find cheap, and like lever guns vs bolt guns... Thanks..

If you can find one, the old Marlin 57M Levermatics are an excellent .22 Magnum. They are a tube magazine gun, with a one piece stock like the Ruger. Very accurate, and very short lever throw. You can work the lever without taking your thumb off the top of the grip, just open and close your fingers.
