Ruger No. 1 stainless .223 Rem update

I'd posted up about the new Ruger No. 1 I found at Cabelas a week or so ago, and promised a followup once I got it to the range.

I decided on a Nikon Prostaff 5 3.5-14x40 silver scope as I'd already put one on my Marlin 336 .35 Rem stainless and really liked it. Ruger included a pair of #4 polished stainless rings with the rifle so that's what I used.

I setup on the 100 yard range and with some old fashion bore sighing and help from a bud, I was on paper after 5 rounds. We both shot the rifle off sandbags with a variety of factory ammo, it was easily shooting MOA-ish as we got used to the trigger. Once the Black Hills 69 grain Sierra Match factory re-manufactured came up to bat, things tightened up. With time running short and 4 rounds left, I got serious and was rewarded with a very nice group.

As we packed up my bud said he thinks this one's a keeper. I couldn't agree more, and it was an absolute joy to shoot. As always, a THR share seems in order

Indeed, I would say you were well rewarded with a very nice group! I have found Black Hills ammo, both new and remanufactured, to be very consistent in terms of quality and accuracy.

I hadn't expected to hunt with it but after shooting it, I'm not so sure. It'd be limited to use on 'yotes and pests as I think .243 is the minimum caliber here in WA.

I have loved the No1 since childhood and never knew they even had a stainless version. Now, I generally don't like the looks of Stainless guns but that is an astoundingly beautiful gun ya got there!

i have a older red recoil pad #1-B, with a lighter barrel with the quarter rib, it shoots very well. eastbank.
