Ok, the screw that lets you remove the cylinder pin/ram....how do you remove that?

It has a ball detent built into it. Use a brass punch or a piece of dowel and punch it out from the smooth side of the pin towards the slotted side.
IT WILL NOT COME OUT EASY. Make sure the gun is well supported and use the punch or dowel with a hammer and some well placed whacks.

I'm having the gun re-finished and I have to completely strip it down. Everything that can come apart, must come apart.

If you figure out how please post. I'm just curious if everything is all well and good inside of there. I squirt a good bit of Ballistol in there when I'm done, but it's never been scrubbed! I'm sure it's fine, but I'd just like to see it I suppose...

No harm to ROA

The pin was designed to be removed. Just tap it and it should come out. Use a wooden dowel or plastic ball point pen barrel if you are worried about marring it.

Yep it is designed to be removed. See my threads on making grips. I detail strip both ROA's down to components. It won't hurt the pin a bit to whack it out as long as the driver you use is soft.

There's also a Youtube video by Ruger on dis assembly and re assembly of the ROA. Look on Youtube for Ruger Old Army, I can't seem to find my link, so you'll have to search.

I'm familiar with that video but it never discusses the cylinder base pin screw removal.

I hope im thinking of the right part, but mine can just be pushed out with a bit of pressure with my thumb? just need to push it in so the ball presses in, then it should slide out.

Yup, they're made to remove/insert. Main thing is to ensure the ball detent is well lubricated. There's a spring behind the ball. Sometimes the spring & ball get rusty & don't move freely.

When ya get it out, put oil on the ball & push the ball in & out, working oil into the spring behind the ball. A chop stick works well for a ball pusher.:-D If it's rusty, keep working oil into it until the oil comes back out clean.

I too have seen the base pin locking "screw" inserted from the wrong side. They're designed to go in from right to left.

So, why would ya wanna take the dern thing out? Cuz it's in the way during various maintenance & fitting & action job operations.

Kindest Regards,
Doak

Very simple. Apply pressure with your thumb on the side with the ball while turning the screw with a driver. Then just grab the screw keep pulling and turning.
