Ruger Old Army Indexing

The Ruger old army manual seems to say that when you've loaded the gun and its still at half cock, that you should always lower the hammer to an empty chamber or safety notch. So you'll then do a full pull back of the hammer back to ensure the gun indexes properly.

I've had people tell me that they always just pull the hammer back from half cock to full cock and shoot immediatly. Should this still index properly ?

That's what I've always done, just cock and fire from half cock after loading, unless I wanted to carry the gun after loading.

I have put over 500 plus shots through my Old Army...I always rest the hammer in those safety notches, and have never had an indexing problem
