Puma 454 Casull
I bought this Puma 454 Casull based on the 92 Winchester action. Strong enough to handle the mighty 454 Casull so hot loaded 45 long Colt should be a piece of cake. Now, the Puma 45 long Colt levers look to be as strong as the Puma 454 Casull levers as far as the action goes. I have never read anything about Puma doing anything special to the 454 Casull levers to strengthen them as opposed to the 45 Long Colt levers as far as receiver, locking lugs and barrel are concerned.

Yep ... a Marlin 1894. It's accurate, great fun to shoot whether you're shooting light Trail Boss type loads or H110 with a 250gr bullet moving at 1500 fps. With the .45 Colt, you'll have to do a lot of reading and wade through very different opinions on what is safe and what isn't. The Marlin action in .45 Colt is the same action as the .44 Magnum and until someone proves otherwise, it's most likely made from the same steel alloy. The .44 Magnum has a SAAMI maximum pressure of 35,500 CUP (or 36,000 psi) whereas the maximum case pressure for .45 Colt (Ruger, T/C loads) is 25,000 CUP (or 20,000 psi). Given that the .45 Colt case is marginally larger in diameter than the .44 Magnum case, it's fair to assume that the chamber walls are slightly thinner but not by much. So basically, you shouldn't have any worries pulling the trigger on 25,000 CUP loads given that virtually the same action can handle 35,500 CUP with the necessary factor of safety. Personally, I believe that 30,000 CUP is fine in the Marlin 1894 (more than a 15% reduction over the .44 mag rating of 35,500 CUP) but I certainly won't advise anyone to load to that pressure given the litigious society that we live in. The loads that I shoot in my Marlin are probably in the 26,000 to 27,000 CUP range and I really like the fact that I can shoot them out of the Marlin or the Redhawk. I just need to use common sense and keep them out of the SAA revolvers that I have.

25,000 to 30,000 psi is approximately 28,300 to 31,600 CUP (using PSI = -17,902 + 1.516*CUP) !! So it seems clear that Glen E. Fryxell of Leverguns.com thinks that 30,000 CUP in a Marlin 1894 is perfectly safe.
