Since the XD is no longer permitted for SSP (Stock Service Pistol) competition for IDPA, I am considering other options. (I already have a revolver for SSR, see my other post)

I am currently looking at the Ruger SR9 and Steyr M-A1 to fill my autoloader slot niche. Are these good enough for competitive use?

The XD has never been permitted for SSP (which is wrong), but I don't see what's wrong with shooting your XD in ESP? Works for me....... I wouldn't get the Ruger until it's been around a while, and the Steyr doesn't have any aftermarket support or parts. And I hated the sights on my Steyrs.

I'd take the Steyr over the Ruger for IDPA, but purely out of personal preference.

FWIW, neither of those guns would be able to pull double duty in both IDPA and Bullseye. About the closest you could get to a gun that could be used for both kinds of competition would be a .45 1911 set up for shooting EIC hardball matches.

Agree with Justin. If you want a bullseye gun, get a bullseye gun; there are several factory and custom 1911s that would serve for NRA Centerfire and Bigbore. And you could get one that would do Service Pistol as well.

Then shoot your XD in IDPA ESP and see how well you can do. All the scores pretty much converge as shooting and gunsmithing techinques improve.

I think Justin meant EIC or Excellence in Competition matches which are conducted by the CMP. They used to be and are still called Leg matches, the history of which, you can find on the CMP website at www.odcmp.com.

I have a photo of my hardball gun posted on this thread

The most common pistols seen in 1st-3rd place, in IDPA are going to be Glocks in SSP and 1911 type (single and double sack) in ESP/CDP. Competitions can be won with any make or model (and have been); the examples are just from statistics.

creepy

:uhoh: thats so wierd, I just got a M9-A1 about 3 weeks ago, and my roomie is getting his SR9 asap......
