Since the fun fireworks are illegal here in Iowa, I made a ton of noise on Independence Day by spending a half day at a public shooting range with my wife. We both had a ball.
I took the Ruger P-95, Ruger 22/45, Ruger 77/22 and a Yugo M-48A.
The P-95 was really liking the UMC 115 grain ammo I picked up at Wal-Mart. They were out of the Winchester 100 round value packs. I went through a few hundred rounds without any problems and with plenty of accuracy. I had one of those "good days" out shooting. The only mods on the P-95 are Hi-Viz front sight and a little grip tape on the front of the grip. It was nice having the 15-round aftermarket mags on hand. The more I shoot the P-95, the more I like it. I may get a P-97 in the future too.
My wife went through about 350 rounds with the 22/45. It got really dirty but never jammed, misfed or even had a bad rimfire primer using the Remington Golden Bullet HPs in 550 round bulk packs. She blasted the yellow paint off my steel pinger targets. Once I corrected her hold on the pistol, she went right to work. I emptied the 22/45 out so fast, a kid from the rifle range came over and wondered if I had a full-auto weapon.
I did a side-by-side comparison with the 77/22 using CCI Stingers vs. the Velociters. I am sighted in with the Stingers at a half inch high at 50 yards. I shot a 10-shot, one-inch group on a Shoot-N-See target using a plastic shooting box with a leather glove on top for a rest. The heavier 40-grain Velociters were just over an inch lower at 50 yards with a 1.5 inch group. I'm sticking with the Stingers. My rifle loves them.
We both shot the Yugo at 50 yards, but it started to rain with a passing thunderstorm. Such is life in the Midwest in July. As least we didn't have a tornado. At 5' 3'', she had no problem with the 8mm rounds and recoil.
Happy belated Independence Day.
