Will a Ruger P89 Slide and barrel fit on a Ruger P90 Frame? or Vise Versa? Taking into account the same decocker and saftey setup. (e.g. a P89DC on a P90DC, or just the P89 DA on P90 DA). What about a P94 (40 S&W) will that slide onto either of the other frames or vise versa?

I have yet to find a definitive answer. I have a Taurus PT-92 and a Taurus PT-100 and can swap slides around and easily go from 9mm to 40 and back, just swapping my slide, barrel, and magazine. Could I go from 9mm to 40, to 45 or any combination in the Ruger platform?

If it does not work simply because the magazines don't work that's fine, I can fix that.

I don't think you can make that swap, but I'm not 100% certain. I do know that the P90 frame is slightly different from the P89 frame. As for the P94, I'm fairly sure you could swap slides with a P944, but nothing else. I have both a P89 and P94, so maybe I'll try it sometime.

BTW, a P94 is 9mm, if it's in .40 it's a P944.

Z-Michigan: Thanks for the correction regarding the 94 and 944, makes my future questioning more intelligent. But I still pose the same base question.
You say "I do know that the P90 frame is slightly different from the P89 frame." In what respect is it different? In researching this question I did come across some forums where the case was made that a P89 (DA) and a P89DC would not interchange because of the decocker. So if your reference was the two different style top ends then that does not definitively tell me that it does not work. So both of your guns are in 9mm, Z-Michigan? Are they the same safety action/decocker?

BTW if anyone else has just one of these guns, a caliper measurement of the critical areas of the gun would certainly help in determining if this can be done. Thank you.

I do know that if nothing else, the mag well is a different shape (single stack vs. double)

I have the P89, and don't have a P90 or P944. I'll try to take some measurements of the P89 slide/frame dimensions when I get a chance. Earliest possible would be late tonight.

My brother is a professional welder, modifying a magazine shouldn't be hard.

If I remember correctly I either put my p97 slide or my p95 slide on the wrong frame by mistake. It fit on the frame but it wouldn't work. I was going what the heck is wrong until I figured out I screwed up. Mark

I don't know about doing that with a P89, but I do know (first hand) that it can be done on a P90. My P90 started came from the factory as a blued manual safety model. I bought a complete "decock only" top end on an auction site and now run my P90 almost exclusively as a decocker version. The receiver required no modification to do so.

I took measurements of the slide rail of my P90. I am curious to see how the P89, P94, and 944 "measures up". What I found is that the slide rails are roughly .746 Inches or 18.94mm although this might be off a little.
