Ruger P89 and P95 D and non D, A little confused.

I understand that these models are DA, and that the D model allows you to decock it....

Why are the decocker models cheaper than the non-decocker models, and what are the positives of not getting the decocker models?

Additionally what is the difference between the P89 and the P95 (besides the 95 being $25 cheaper?)

The P89 looks better/cleaner than the P89D, and the P95 looks like it has a slightly cheaper grip/build than the P89

Any other info I should be aware of? Isnt it possible to decock the P89 by holding the hammer with your thumb while pulling the trigger? (similar to a revolver)

The difference between the P95 and P89 is that the P95 has a 1/2 inch shorter bbl. P95's bbl is 4" and the P89's bbl is 4.5". I have a P95PR15 and my girlfriend's father has a P89, he loves his. Me, I totally don't like my P95. The trigger pull after the first shot is rediculous. For me the sights are too small as well. Also, I've heard and did have a problem with the first two rounds chambering with the P95 when I first got it. I currently am totally anti-Ruger after my experience. Then again I prefer a Springfield XD to anything else I've shot or own.

what is the difference in the safety on these two. I briefly handled my father's p95DC it seemed as if the only thing the decock lever was good for was just that. decocking the hammer, it seemed to lack a real safety. (top heavy too)

Why do it the hard way?

Decock vs. non-decock isn't quite accurate. All Ruger centerfire autos (that aren't DAO) decock. Putting the safety on "safe" decocks the gun.

the big differnce is the p95 has a polymer frame.

To decock a manual saftey P89, all you have to do is pivot the safety downward. This "rolls" the firing pin inward away from contact with the hammer, drops the hammer, and disengages the trigger.

I pretty much treat the safety on mine as a decocker most times. If I am done firing, I simply pivot it down and then right back up. I also like the assurance of being able to render the pistol totally safe when I am at the range with a new shooter that is still learing to keep their "booger hook" off the trigger until they are actually ready to fire
