In Edit: Maybe this should have been in Gun smithing? Sorry about that.
I recently bought a police trade in Ruger P89. It was in poor cosmetic shape but ran alright so I sent it off to a Local GunSmith for a refinish.
The Gunsmith called me yesterday and told me the slide is cracked. I was like "What a p89 slide cracking? That's crazy talk."
Well apparently it is cracked. He thought it was a deep scratch so he sanded it down and then Buffed it. It was still there so I had him Use dye penatrant on it and lo and behold its a crack. I do not know if it is all the way through to the inside. I didn't have him go that far with it.
The Slide it pretty substantial so I am wondering if there's a option of grooving it and have it welded and just sanding it down. Slide is to be cerakoted and is Not a Stainless slide. I have access to to fantastic Journeyman Welders that would probably TIG it up for me.
As shown in the pic is it is in the middle of the slide towards the muzzle. It doesn't run to the bottom and is about 1/8th" long.
