For those who frequent this section, you will know I also just purchased a Sig SP2022 in 9mm a few days ago, love it. So I figured this would be just as good after getting a new slide...
===========================
So I bought a used Sig mosquito that had the slide cracked, I paid 170 for it. I've read this happens to P22's & Sig Mosquito's, but usually after 10k+ rounds, & this gun has no where near that many.He told me it still fires & that he purchased it less than a year ago. He said the slide just cracked while he was shooting.

My question is would Sig fix this for me for free since to me it seems to be an error on their part? I don't have a receipt or anything just the box & manual.

Has anyone dealt with Sig's customer service? How was it? Would I just send the handgun to them & they send it directly back to me? Or does it have to come back to an FFL?

here are some pictures of the crack for reference

You can ship (via legal means) a handgun to an FFL and they can send the gun directly back to you. As for whether SIG will fix it... only SIG would know that. :)

They will answer your questions, and I am thinking they will replace the slide for you at no cost - but that is a quess. I would call them and explain that you were shooting the gun and the slide cracked - be prepared with model and serial number before you call. Be polite and ask them . No need to tell them you bought it that way .

You will have to deal with them either way to get a new slide . I do believe they can ship it back to you - If they say they will cover it under warranty you can ask them to send a pick up tag.

Unless you want to tell the truth, of course.

You do realize that this model has a history of such problems, right? You essentially just inherited someone else's bad purchase. Better to just buy one of the more reliable compact autos.

That would be my thought too.

Think of how you'll sound/appear, if they look up the serial number and find that this pistol had previously been reported as having a cracked slide.

How much creditability will you have with them at that point?

I stand corrected - tell them you bought it that way, even if they don't ask, and good luck .

If Sig doesn't stand behind it, then lesson learned, and buy a Taurus next time.

I'm certainly not a Taurus fan by any stretch of the imagination but I must say I've never seen or heard of any Taurus .22s with cracked slides.

Walther P22s yeah but not Taurus.

I will try calling them I was just wondering if anyone has had this happen to them before & yes I know they are reported to do this, but so are Walther P22's and they are pretty decent plinkers. Plus I like how the mosquito looks. I just figured for 170 I couldn't lose much, it still fires as is. I just thought Sig may stand behind it and repair it at no cost if they don't I'll just get it fixed & use it either way.
Thanks for the comments, will call them & report back

EDIT: I forgot, is there a way to look up when the Serial number was made? I saw on the site they have a 1year warranty. So it would be nice to know before I called if it was under warranty or not. I know you can look it up in other Sig models. Like is there a way to at least find out what year it was made in?

Some manufacturers will cover things after the stated warranty period. Some limit the warranties to avoid some issues associated with unlimited ones.

Given the style of that safety, you may be able to have the slide welded and reinforced from the outside, then just use a longer screw. The extra reinforcement would prevent the problem from happening again.

I bought a P229 back in 2004 that had thousands of rounds through it. The first couple of times I took it out the rear sight began to move under recoil. I called them and they sent a box with the return sticker. I sent in the slide only the fixed it and replaced the tritium inserts and shipped it back to me for no cost what so ever.

The classic P-series of pistols have little relation to the Mossie in either build quality or how it is handled by SIG CS.

As the OP's tittle suggested, he took a gamble...it isn't one I would have taken...but he did go into it knowing what he was buying. I wouldn't expect SIG to repair this...certainly not at their expense if it is past the warranty period

I will never buy a SIG anything, period.

My buddy bought a Mosquito and had to send it to SIG for service because of a broken part. (don't remember what) Sig said it was a covered repair so no biggie....until they got the pistol and saw he had polished the trigger linkage to try to improve the pull. He did nothing to alter the operation what so ever just cleaned up some machine marks, and he even told them before hand what he had done and they assured him it was no problem. Sig called him back and said that they would not cover the needed repair under warranty because of this and that he would be charged for it and the return shipping. So my buddy told them to send it back unrepaired but they refused saying they would not return it unless it was in operating condition. YES, they were going to keep his pistol. He was stuck so it cost almost as much as what he paid for it to get it back . To top that the pistol never did function correctly after that and constantly jammed. He sold it at a loss and bought a Ruger slabside and was never happier.

IMO Their warranty isn't worth the paper it's printed on and their customer service is joke! My suggestion to you is to junk it and get something else. Now I'm usually one to jump on the soapbox but when my buddy told me about this it really burned my cookies.
